Inner labia are chafed

I gave birth to a healthy son almost 6 weeks ago. The delivery part was difficult; the contractions didn't pick up properly, and he had pooped in the amniotic fluid, which made him suffocate. They had to use forceps to pull him out from the top of my belly. Then I was torn on all sides, and it took almost an hour and a half to stitch me up properly.

So the stitching wasn't really done well because I was torn in my inner labia. They stitched me up, but last weekend I realized that my right labia consists of two pieces. It was simply torn in the middle during the birth, and they stitched it up with dissolvable stitches. Probably the stitches dissolved too quickly, or the midwife just didn't stitch me up properly.

Who else has experienced this or ever had a repair surgery?

I feel quite deformed and even feel ashamed in front of my partner.

Greetings, Miriam

That's really tough for you. I'd suggest talking about it or seeing if a correction can be made. The last thing you should feel is shame. Bring it up with your GP. There might be something that can be done.

    Best, Djoke

    Oh my goodness, Miriam!!
You shouldn't keep walking around with this, okay!!!
I'd go back as soon as possible for an examination. This definitely wasn't meant to happen. Did you not have a postnatal check-up?
Please don't feel ashamed (even though it's easier said than done),
but there's nothing you can do about it, and the doctors are probably used to cases like this.
You're definitely not deformed! Something clearly went wrong..

If I'm not mistaken, Cin went through something similar too.
Congratulations anyway on your little man!! Hopefully, you've recovered a bit from the difficult birth..
But definitely go back to get it checked out!!

    Love, Olivia

    hey miriam
i had stitches cut and also sutured, and they took them out after 4 days because there was a lot of pressure on the wound. they were also dissolvable stitches.
since it was a young midwife, I think 22, I also thought she took them out too early. i looked in the mirror and didn't know what i saw down there. it looked like it was just open again. that monday my own midwife was back from vacation and i told her right away; i think i need to be stitched again. she asked why. it's wide open all around! so re-stitching isn't possible. she said right away let me take a look but according to her the other midwife did her job well and everything looked very good. it took weeks for it to completely close and also weeks before i could sit normally again. the wound heals from the inside out and thus takes a very long time. unfortunately. but i would definitely get it checked because maybe it really wasn't done well.

    greetings liena

Thursday I'm going to the gynecologist to see if it can be fixed. I understand that I don't need to be ashamed of it, but it's been irritating, which means I'm producing extra discharge now, and from time to time I just feel it leaking out. I hope the gyn can help me further. I also just hope to talk to someone who's going through the same thing.

With the birth of my second, my right labia was completely torn in half because the little lady pushed her way out with her hand on her cheek and elbow...
So it consisted of 2 parts back then,, it was stitched up here with dissolvable stitches...
But it was neatly stitched according to the GP at the follow-up..when she came back a bit later she had already removed some of the dissolvable stitches because it looked good already and then I wouldn't have that it would start pulling later, you know...
But that it only really closed up later, that it was still a bit open and that you can feel some fluid leaking out is not good, I think...I never had this actually...
There's nothing visible now, you hardly see the scar either, I'm more bothered by the area right below where I was stitched back then...no pain but often irritated so it swells a bit...really quite annoying, been to the doctor twice already,,,but it looks good as far as it can look ;-) she said instead of 2 folds now there are 3, well I guess it'll be fine...I was also offered to have the scar tissue removed again but yeah then you'd get scar tissue again so...no, better not...
I personally think yours wasn't stitched properly! No need to be embarrassed at all, just lie down on the table to get it checked..and speak up if something's wrong...if it still consists of 2 parts now that would mean it's still torn, so I think it can just be stitched again then!
    Good luck!

If they want to reconstruct it, they'll have to detach both sides, so cut out a piece in between, and then it can sit really tight, said the GP. But I don't even dare to shave my lower part now because I find it really scary to look at. So I hope that Miss, with a plastic surgeon, can fix it neatly again so I can feel comfortable with my lower part again.

But it doesn't seem like a tight fit either, does it? Or am I misunderstanding? For me, it was the outer part of the labia (not the inner ones, by the way)! I'm just re-reading it now...
Well, girl, I hope it works out for you too! It'll be fine, I'm sure!

I've had a torn left labia for 5 years. It's on the outside, and I went to the gynecologist, but she said: "Leave it alone, girl. If you have a second child, you might get the same problem again." So I did nothing. Now I have a second child, the birth went fine without tearing, and I regret not doing anything. I really want to get it fixed now because I'm only 26, and my 5-year relationship ended 8 months ago. I want to see my GP, but I'm afraid I'll hear the same thing I heard 5 years ago. The last thing I want is to start a new relationship with three labia

Well ladies.. having kids doesn't make you any prettier Same story with me.. inner labia torn in half.. But I find the reactions above quite peculiar, people are talking about 'you should go back with this' etc. while it's practically impossible to properly stitch an inner labia, because it's kind of like an earlobe.. it just doesn't heal well together.. Sad that it's such a big issue.. honestly I don't find it really bothersome, though it would've been nicer if it hadn't happened of course Well anyway, nothing you can do about it! Some have their whole body under the knife, others have a torn labia

    Hi!
I gave birth 13 weeks ago and it's still very wide open for me.
My left labia was torn in three places and I'm missing half of my right labia, which has sagged downwards
and hangs there like a little ball... The stitches also came loose too early!!
I'm seeing the gynecologist soon to see if they can repair it...
It doesn't need to win a beauty contest, but it would be nice if I didn't have so much discomfort from it..

I have exactly the same thing. I just told my GP that it's bothering me. According to him, it can be removed. Tomorrow I'm going back to tell him that I want it removed.

Here’s another one! I gave birth to my second child 9.5 months ago, and I only just noticed today that my outer left labia is in two pieces. I didn’t know what I was seeing; it really startled me. During my delivery, the midwife had torn my labia with her finger because she thought the birth needed to happen faster. And apparently, she didn’t stitch it properly! While she had said beforehand that it looked really good. So, no, it didn’t!

I’ve had long-term, very unpleasant clumpy discharge. And for two weeks now, it’s been itching terribly. It also feels weird. Until now, I really haven’t taken the time to look closely. And what I saw today really scared me. I’m going to call my doctor tomorrow right away.

Is there anyone here with the same problem? My left and right inner labia are torn horizontally right down the middle. I've been dealing with this for almost 11 years now. I never really thought about getting help through a repair surgery, partly because my GP said I should just accept it. But after all these years, I still have pain for about 5 days after sex. I've reached a point where I feel I shouldn't have to put myself through this anymore. Does anyone have a positive experience with a repair surgery, or a solution to reduce the pain afterwards?
