So moody and fragile during menstruation

Hey,
When I'm about to get my period or just got it, I barely recognize myself. I'm just so moody, really not enjoyable at all. I cry very quickly and get irritated much sooner, feeling a bit down too.. I'm jealous of everyone who is pregnant, angry about small things (things I had long forgotten before, but they suddenly come back up and I start getting worked up again). Also, the sadness about our baby we lost comes up much more then, while I'm much calmer about it the rest of the month.
I really hate it, I have an optimistic, cheerful personality the rest of the month. But that one week my husband can just bury himself, it's terrible. Are there people who recognize this? Tips? It seems a bit excessive to really take something for it or something like that since it's only for a few days, but sometimes it comes out really badly..

It's been even stronger since we started trying for a baby, because then I'm double moody: because I was always like that due to hormones, and then on top of that, it didn't work out that month. But even when we didn't want a baby yet and were just dating, we always had one week of arguments per month
I'm curious if there are more of those hormone-moody people

    Hi Saartje,

So relatable what you write! I don't recognize myself in this rotten week either (coincidentally, since today again over...)
Nice to read that I'm not the only one here in this :-).
Terrible fights with my boyfriend where I really have terrible moods and say terrible things, which I really don't mean. Everything and everyone is too much around me and I definitely don't want to see pregnant women then.

    What I'm trying...
I'm reading a book on mindfulness. Just to get myself a bit calmer again. And I'm going to try to isolate myself a bit when I feel or notice that I'm getting one of those moods.
It's hard to break through, but I'm going to do my best.

    Hope you can use this.
    Strength, girl.

    Dear Saartje,

It's really tough that you feel so awful during your period.
I read on this forum before that you lost your baby. Don't you have every reason to be angry and sad, especially when confronted with blood?
Try to accept from yourself that you're sadder and more irritable during your period than the rest of the month. Better that way, than the other way around (that you're only happy for 1 week of the month and not the rest).

I do recognize your complaints. I was always tearful and sad, especially on the first day of my period and extra irritable the days before.

I want to give you a big hug.
Take your time to give your grief a place, it's no small thing what you've been through!

    Hi Nancy and Zusss,

    Thanks for your lovely replies!
I'm also going to look up some info on mindfulness (is it not too woo-woo? I'm quite down-to-earth). And isolating yourself if you can when you're so angry, I try that too, otherwise you end up saying ugly things that no one benefits from!

And Zusss, you're right that we have reason to be sad, just like Nancy, by the way (strength to you too, I read your story in the mmm group). But I'm not just sad, I'm also really angry and jealous, I find those unpleasant emotions. My best friend, for example, got pregnant right after we lost our baby and I'm just so angry at her! How can you even think about trying again the month after? And of course it was immediately pregnant again (3rd time already so soon, never had a miscarriage, always everything went well, I'm just angry about it), I find it so unfair! While she really empathized with us and cried hard with me when it went wrong. I know that if it had gone well for us, she would have been very happy, but I just can't be happy for her..

Well, I hope time will heal that a bit too, and then just wait until my period is over and hopefully I'll see things a bit more cheerfully Strength with your pregnancy Zusss, hope everything goes well with the baby and that your pain gets less! And Nancy, I hope you'll get to hold a little one in your arms again soon!
