Epidural during childbirth

Who has had an epidural during childbirth? Soja, with a vaginal birth or C-section? And how did you experience the epidural? Was the insertion painful? Was the anesthesia that you get beforehand painful? How quickly did it work? I'm terrified of needles!

Had an epidural for my first birth, during the contractions. Really afraid of needles but felt nothing, was too busy getting annoyed at people who thought I should arch my back more (how with a fully grown baby haha). Can't really remember the anesthesia either. The IV yes, but they missed the first time. Second time was good but turned out not to work, so after two attempts on the left I got one on the right. But overall didn't feel much, had something like it with the second contraction, but it was so quick there was no time for that It'll be fine, at that moment you're in another world and I was fine with everything as long as the baby came out haha. Discuss your concerns with the midwife beforehand for reassurance and so they can take it into account.
