Can you choose to have a C-section?

I did get to choose for myself, but I was in a specific medical situation where I had to make the choice. I had a very severe prolapse of my intestines and uterus due to a chronic illness, so I was afraid that pushing during a natural birth might make things worse. That's why I decided to request a C-section, which I got without any problem I would just ask around about it.

That’s so tough that you had such a difficult first birth and are now so anxious about it. As far as I know, you can’t just opt for a C-section without a medical reason. What might help is EMDR, a therapy that can really help with anxiety quickly. A good friend of mine did it and was completely free of her anxiety after just two sessions. Also, keep in mind that every birth is different. My first birth was awful, with a lot of medical setbacks, and it took forever. My second birth was like a dream birth, even at home and quite quick. Strength!!

Without a medical reason, you can't choose a C-section because it's basically just abdominal surgery.

I'd definitely recommend seeking help to talk about your "traumas" from the previous birth. I understand it's tough, but maybe that'll help you feel more at ease going into this delivery. Good luck!

As far as I know, you can't choose whether you want to give birth naturally or have a C-section. If there's no medical reason for it, doctors aren't quick to opt for a C-section. It's still just a surgery, which comes with risks. I'd definitely discuss your fears and how much they're weighing on you with your midwife/gynecologist. They can advise you on what you can do. As Sam also said, EMDR therapy might be something for you. I went through this therapy myself (for other fears), and after a few sessions, you really get rid of your fears. I'd almost say with certainty that you're ready for a natural birth.
