Pregnant preschool teacher

Hi everyone!
Quick question for any preschool teachers out there.

I’m 6 weeks pregnant and have been tested for immunity to CMV and toxoplasmosis. I’d really like to finish out the last month of the school year. After June 30th, I don’t have any prospects lined up.

I haven’t told my principal about my pregnancy yet because I’m immune. I’m worried that the occupational health doctor might put me on leave.

So my question is: does anyone here have experience with this? I definitely don’t want to put my child’s life at risk by continuing to work, even though I’m immune.

Thanks in advance! ????

Best wishes

I've never heard that you have to stay home for that. Just wash your hands well. But maybe that's a difference between Belgium and the Netherlands?

I also work with kids and here you just have to be hygienic. If there's a disease circulating that you haven't had yet and that's dangerous for pregnant women (like fifth disease), you should temporarily work at a different location here. I've had all those childhood illnesses myself, so no danger for me. Toxoplasmosis, no idea if I'm immune to that, but it's easy to avoid.

In Belgium, I think they're very strict about it and will ask you to stay home. It's really impressive that you want to finish it so badly, but you don't want to get into trouble over it. Could you maybe confide in another teacher?

I lost my baby at 34 weeks due to CMV... I wouldn't take any risks.

Ugh, that's just terrible and anonymous...
CMV can be transmitted through urine, feces, and saliva, right? When I was pregnant with my first, nothing was ever said about it, even though I worked in daycare. If you can catch it somewhere, it's definitely there. With my second and now my third, it was mentioned because I have kids at home.

In the Netherlands, it's less strict about work than in Belgium, I think. People here just work until 34 or 36 weeks, unless you have a job where it's not possible.

I got it from my first child... They also got it at daycare. Belgium is ahead of the Netherlands when it comes to protection... Thank goodness.
