Bleeding and weird midwife

Kelly
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum and actually looking for people who can help calm me down a bit.
We found out last Wednesday that I'm pregnant. We were super happy about it. But last night I noticed a little light pink blood on the toilet paper. And today, a few drops of real red blood when I peed.
I hadn't found a midwife yet, but I called the one closest to me today to ask if everything was okay and because I keep reading that you should call if there's bleeding.
This midwife could only tell me to be realistic and just wait until week 8 or 9 because she can't do anything for me before then anyway.
Has anyone else experienced something similar? I was really shaken by her response and am already looking for another midwife.
Love, Molly

    Hey Molly,
That wasn't really convenient, was it!
It's normal to lose a bit of blood, it could very well be implantation bleeding.
But having an ultrasound right now doesn't make sense yet because there might not be any heartbeat yet... What you could do is drop by for a chat so they can at least reassure you, but I fear any midwife would tell you the same thing...

Do you have any pain? Cramps or anything like that?

No, I don't have any more pain. I am feeling really nauseous and tired, but that's just normal, of course. I found a different midwife. I'll call on Monday to make an initial appointment.
I find it all so exciting too!

    Hi Molly...

Oh my god, that must have been such a shock! And then you’ve got a midwife who doesn’t really handle things well, and you’re still not reassured! I’d call your GP... they might take it more seriously and could possibly refer you to an OB-GYN at the hospital! I’m 6 weeks pregnant and also have a lot of stomach pain and am really worried about it. No bleeding, but I was doubled over from the pain! Went to an urgent care clinic yesterday, lovely doctor! Turns out it was my intestines! For my own peace of mind, I’m allowed to get an ultrasound! And I need to call my GP on Monday to arrange it!
Good luck and hope everything’s okay!
    Love, Lynn

Not exactly tactful, but she's right. Up to about 12 weeks, they can't do much if you experience bleeding and a possible miscarriage occurs. The baby is still too small to do anything about it. But apart from that, I'd definitely switch to another midwife. If she handles uncertain pregnancies like this, it doesn't seem very reassuring for check-ups and your delivery later on.

Lynn, that is indeed a super HA. But it's nerve-wracking when you have those stomach pains; luckily, I don't. When are they going to do an ultrasound?

I didn't feel like calling anyone else yesterday. I was basically done with it. I filled out an online registration form with another GP, so I hope to hear something from them tomorrow, and if not, I'll give them a call myself. Luckily, I've been reading lots of stories everywhere about bleeding where everything turned out fine in the end.

Lexie, I know they can't do much, and I'm not entirely sure why I called either. But I guess I was just hoping for a little reassurance. Unfortunately, that didn't come from that GP.

As you say, Molly, a reassurance is really the least you should expect. And to be taken seriously.

For example, I had already mentioned to both the gynecologist and the midwife that I have chronic anemia, and neither of them even reacted to it.
(For other reasons) I moved to a different hospital, and when I told the gynecologist here about it, he brushed it off with a wave of his hand,
like, "ah, every pregnant woman has that."
Then the midwife (who, by the way, did take me seriously and immediately had my blood checked) called me to say I urgently needed extra iron because I was way below average! And I was already 6 months pregnant!!!
That could have been easily prevented if they had listened to me from the start!

Often you're just not heard. Pregnant women have ailments, of course, but it's not exactly fun..

    @Lynn
That's so annoying that you're having trouble with your intestines right now!
Is that going to pass, and is it related to the pregnancy??

    Hey Molly...

How are you feeling? No more bleeding anymore? I'm going to call my GP tomorrow and make an appointment to schedule an ultrasound as soon as possible! I was really lucky to have such a nice doctor at the after-hours clinic! He really reassured me, and that's exactly what you need right now! I know an ultrasound might be too early to see heartbeat activity... but it's always nice if they take a look anyway! I'm really nervous about it!
Hope you get to have one soon too!

@Olivia-Anna, what a story! It would indeed be nice if people like that took you seriously.
@Lynn, exciting times, huh! I hope you get an ultrasound soon and see something really beautiful. I'm still having bleeding. Old blood last night and this morning. Now just clear red again, and not too much, but it's not feeling great either. I might do another test tomorrow morning. I still have one left. But I'm not sure if I dare. Otherwise, I don't have any stomach pain or anything like that, but I do feel like my lower abdomen is quite bloated. I find waiting so hard!
Let me know tomorrow what the midwife said and when you have your ultrasound, okay?
What you say about your intestines sounds very familiar to me. Mine have been upset since about the 4th week, I think. I didn't even know I was pregnant then.

    hey molly...
I can really imagine how uncomfortable you must be feeling!! I also get worried quickly... and I find it all really scary and stressful! Of course you hope your pregnancy goes well! I’d call your midwife! And explain your story... maybe she can help you more! You want to be taken seriously with these complaints, don’t you? You also hear from time to time that some women still “get their period” while they’re actually pregnant! Try to stay positive... Pff, that’s sometimes hard! Really hope everything turns out okay, girl, I’ll be thinking of you! My belly is also really bloated and I’m really bothered by it! Especially my small intestine seems to be very upset and they could feel it moving under their fingers! There are medications for this, but since I was pregnant, I wasn’t allowed to take them! I got advice to watch my diet and eat something very light or even liquid so it can rest! And drink lots of water or weak tea! I’ll keep you posted!

Eating rusk and bananas also helps a bit, you know. And drinking lots of tea, indeed! I just called the new midwife. She's a really lovely woman. She asked a lot of questions and shared a lot, and now she's checking if we can come in for an ultrasound this afternoon or tomorrow afternoon. She'll call me back later.
  11. Lynn #12

    Hey Molly!
That's so nice to hear! That must be a relief for you... Exciting, right, girl!
We're also going this afternoon! The midwife called right away to schedule an appointment, and we're going at 13:55! So exciting!! We'll keep each other posted and good luck this afternoon!

Well, as you can see, I had my ultrasound! I'm so happy! Everything was fine and the little heart was already beating!
Next week I'm going back for a check-up! How did it go for you?

Lynn! Super to see! Nice ultrasound and good that they're keeping an eye on it!
Mine wasn't good unfortunately. It was too small and at most 4 weeks old. Now I have to wait until it comes out on its own and then quickly move on.
I'll keep an eye on how things are going with you here!
  14. Lynn #15

    Hey girl!

That's so awful for you! Pff.. it really gets me emotional and I'm so sorry you're going through this!
Sounds absolutely terrible, but you sound so positive about it! How are you feeling??
I'm glad they took a look and now you know what's going on! No need to stress about it anymore...
Well girl, I'm thinking of you! And hope you have a good pregnancy soon!

    Hugs for you!

I'm actually doing pretty well. I shed a lot of tears yesterday, but right now I just feel awful not knowing how long it's going to stay. You hear a lot that people get pregnant again very quickly after a miscarriage, so I'm holding on to that a bit.

But I'm so glad things are okay with you. Keep me posted, okay! It's something I can enjoy!
  17. Lynn #18

Hey girl, I'll do that! Were you pregnant quickly this time? Hope you don't have to wait too long for it to happen! You know how to reach me if you want to chat! You can also always send a PM (private message)!

It took 7 months, so actually quite average, but for us it was way too long We'll just wait and see. I called the GP again and can get a pill to induce the miscarriage, but I'm holding off on that for a few more days.

Hey girls, how are you and the little ones doing?
I'm doing a quick update because I'm driving myself crazy.
The ultrasound was 2 weeks ago, and besides being super nauseous and tired, not much has changed. Our baby is still there, so secretly I'm starting to hope that I was pregnant for less time than everyone thought. Tomorrow I have another ultrasound to see if anything has changed. It should be 6 weeks now.
I HOPE SO MUCH THAT EVERYTHING IS OKAY!
