Induction

Hi everyone,

We've been told that our baby isn't growing as much anymore. She's now estimated at 2300g at 37+6 weeks. She's currently on the 6th percentile (meaning 6% of all babies are smaller and 94% are bigger).

Because of my pelvic instability and the fact that our daughter is so small, I'd really like her to come as soon as possible, so I've asked for an induction. She's only gained 300g in the past 3.5 weeks.

Of course, they'd prefer for labor to start on its own, so the OB checked if she could strip my membranes. My cervix was already softened but not yet effaced, so there was no dilation yet.

They've decided to keep monitoring to see if they can strip my membranes, and otherwise induce me at 39 weeks (in 8 days).

Has anyone had experience with an induction where the cervix was softened but not yet effaced and no dilation yet? What do they do in that situation, and how long did it take for you?

I was induced at 38 weeks because I had pre-eclampsia.
I had 3 cm dilation, so they broke my waters.
As far as I know, they place a balloon catheter if you don't have any dilation yet.

I was induced at 41+6 with a partially dissolved mucus plug and no dilation. They first placed a balloon for me, which stayed in for 24 hours (didn't hurt), but unfortunately didn't do much for me. Then they gave me gel on my cervix 2 more times to speed things up. What they use to get dilation varies by hospital, so just ask around! Good luck in advance and hopefully your baby's weight won't be too much!
