27 weeks and feeling the baby

Ladies, I have a question.
I'm 27 weeks pregnant and sometimes I feel the baby really well, both from the inside and outside, and then it takes a few days before I feel the baby again. It's been a week since I felt him intensely, and these last few days I only feel him a little bit, and only once a day or so!! I know my placenta is anterior, but I still find it unsettling. What's your experience?

Hi Katie, that’s so frustrating, I know from experience. I had exactly the same thing. Of course, everything turned out fine, but you still have thoughts creeping in when you can’t feel anything.
What helped me was to lie down right away if I’d been active for a while. My baby would often wake up then, and I could feel something.

    Hi Katie,

Totally relatable. My placenta is also anterior, and I often don't feel our daughter move, or only feel very soft movements. I also feel a lot of movements very low down.
But whether it's really a disadvantage, I don't know... Last week, our little one did a somersault, and I felt her foot make a firm half-circle above the placenta, and I thought to myself: "Phew!" So it's good that the movements are somewhat dampened.

Just like with Johanna, our little one wakes up when I lie down calmly, so you could indeed try that if you want a bit more "certainty".
Don't forget that your baby sleeps about 18 out of 24 hours, and maybe your baby is awake when you are sleeping!

Thanks ladies, I do feel him quite low too, mainly when I lie down. But it feels so faint and gentle to me that I sometimes worry. I once read that you should feel your baby at least 10 times a day at 27 weeks, well I don't even reach that!!!

    Hi Katie,

My OB-GYN told me I should feel 10 little movements per day. But my placenta isn't positioned in front. I can imagine you'd have to do it with much fewer movements.

    Love,

Hi Tineke, that puts my mind at ease. If your gynecologist says "little movements" and you even have your placenta in the back, that explains a lot. Thank you!

Sure thing, Katie. I started to get a bit worried too because I heard stories from many women saying their bellies went out in all directions and they got little rest. I think I was around 25 weeks then, and this was definitely not the case for me. I also only started feeling the baby late, from around 23 weeks onwards. And indeed, my placenta is not positioned in front, so don't worry too much, girl! But I completely understand!

    Love,
