So you got pregnant twice while on the pill? Did you not swallow it properly?
  2. Kelsii1990 #62

    Yeah, that's true Vivian,

but she had kidney/pelvis infections/bladder infections very often back then, so she regularly took antibiotic courses.

And the second time, I was on a very low-dose pill, Microgynon 30 or something like that.
You do hear more often that people get pregnant while on that pill.
  3. shannah #63

Lin, don't worry about it. Brown blood is old blood, so it's not a period. I was always told to start counting the cycle from when you have actual red bleeding.

Kelssi, 3.5 years is something I wouldn't wish on anyone. It's truly terrible! It's weird that it's taking significantly longer this time than usual. They usually say the second one goes faster...

    Hi Shannah,

Yeah, that's true, hehe. The doctor and midwife told me it does happen more often, and I can expect it to take about a year. Even if you really want it, it can sometimes work against you. But this round, I really have good hope.

I'm getting my period on Sunday, and what I've noticed this cycle is:

No headaches at all, whereas every month after ovulation (before and during) I usually suffer from migraines. This round, nothing – which is a bright spot for me.
Also, my breasts are less sensitive and painful this round. Normally, right after ovulation, they become very sensitive and quite painful.
I was sick at 4 DPO, felt nauseous since then, and still am with certain types of food.
I have light cramps and twinges in my lower belly.
Usually, 4 days before my period, I get such bad stomach pain that I'm sure my period is coming. So I see this as a positive sign.

I'm just assuming my period will come and that it'll take a year. Then it'll all be okay anyway

P.S. I think my body is just doing what it wants. Because twice I got pregnant while on the pill when I didn't want to be – bam, it happened right away. And now that I want to get pregnant, nature makes me wait, and my body just plays dumb lol hahaha.

And you guys? Are you trying for your first baby?

    Love,
  5. shannah #65

Yes Kelssi, that all looks very promising! I have to admit that I had given up after a while. My body played so many tricks on me and gave me so many false hopes... When it finally happened, I didn't notice anything at all let alone having any pregnancy complaints! We are indeed pregnant with our first child.

Dear girls, sorry I've been away for a bit but I really think your messages are so sweet; they really put me at ease!!

So this month, first of all, for the real thing, I'm so excited!!

Shannah, indeed, I started having bleeding on Sunday. Well, brown discharge, there was no red blood visible each time. This lasted for 4 days, and today I really got my period, immediately noticeable with a gush of blood. The only thing I'm wondering is where does that brown blood come from? And on Friday (2 days before the brown discharge started), I had a dull pain in my right ovary all day, which came and went, very strange. I don't know if it was just a coincidence or if it had something to do with it?

By the way, if I calculate from the actual bleeding, I have a 28-day cycle but ovulation only on day 18. Hopefully, this won't cause any problems; that was also one of the reasons I was a bit worried about the brown discharge, since that would be 7 days after my ovulation, as far as I know, which is too early.....

    Pfffff, the female body!!!!

Hihi Lin, complicated, huh!! Everyone has it that way! Men really have it chill, don't they? When it's time to have sex, they're instantly in the mood, always climax easily, jump in the shower for a quick rinse, and that's it, Mr. Done! We have to get aroused first to be properly wet, then concentrate and hope that the penis stays hard long enough to climax, and then lie there to give the sperm a chance, and still remember the whole day after showering about the sex... Shall we go on strike, girls?!
  8. shannah #68

Yes Lin, this is totally fine. It's a misconception that women always ovulate on the 14th day of their cycle. In most cases, it's 14 days before the period (and that's often where the problem lies, because when do you actually get your period!). I myself had a cycle of around 35 days! .. so it was never the same and I didn't ovulate regularly either. AND you see ... it worked out anyway

Brown discharge is actually just old blood that's still "sticking" in the cervix. This blood then simply comes out due to hormones or, for example, because you've been exercising heavily or something. The pain and the combination with brown discharge could also mean (and yes, maybe you won't like to hear this) that conception did occur, but implantation didn't happen or something went wrong (I'm not a doctor, of course!).

@Vivian: Lol... strike? No way... I find all that chatter too amusing for that

Lin, good luck this month! Just try to enjoy it and especially don't have sex because you feel you have to! Gyne is very sensible. Have you already stopped taking the pill effectively, or only this month?
  10. Lin<3 started this #70

Shannah, I stopped in October and wanted to give my body some time to get everything back on track on its own.
So hopefully that works in my favor a bit—I can only really say for sure since 2 months ago that my cycle is regular again.
How long did it take for you to get pregnant?
    X
  11. shannah #71

It took us 3.5 years, BUT I had a very irregular cycle that ended up staying at 35 days, so yeah... I just started the first steps for IUI and then, of course, got pregnant I hope it goes a bit faster for you guys, because for me, the whole "getting pregnant" thing wasn't exactly all roses and moonlight...
  12. Lin<3 started this #72

Shannah, what a mess! I mean, I really don't want to think about it taking another three and a half years!! I have so much respect for staying positive!!
Here it's 8 days to go and we're starting the real work, but in between, just whenever we feel like it, which is basically every other day, hehe!
    Exciting!
  13. shannah #73

I hope it doesn't take too long for you guys too, and that you can become mom and dad sooner! Anyway, enjoy the process... Good luck!
  14. shannah #74

You should really start taking folic acid now... I don't know if you're already doing that... but it takes a few months for the dosage to build up in your body, and it's an important nutrient for your baby's healthy development As for everything else, I didn't take any extra supplements...

A little tip maybe... coming at the same time as your hubby. It could be completely coincidence, but after a while my husband and I got that timing down perfectly, and that month was the one .. coincidence or not. Every little helps?!

Oh yeah! And as hard as it is... DON'T test too early! Because if you do, your hopes get hung up. "Maybe I tested too early?" And your body starts playing tricks on you. Just wait (if possible 2) days after your expected period.
  15. Vivian #75

Shan, and what was the method that worked for you to get ready quickly?
  16. Kelsii1990 #76

    Sorry for my late reply!

Congrats Shannah, I saw it indeed, you're almost at the end already, wow that's exciting.
I have to say this round my body played tricks on me again!
So I'm now in round 9 and I'm completely done with it.
I've thrown away my ovulation test strips, I feel my ovulation and I only have sex now when my partner and I feel like it.
And let it just happen naturally from now on, I've even deleted the app.
It's better that I don't know when my period is coming, I can't obsess over it then.
I got my period yesterday, 2 days late, and I say my body played tricks on me again.
I still take VSM Mama Pure with folic acid every day though.

For now, as a closing note, I'm reading the book "Nesting: Getting Pregnant and Staying Pregnant".
It explains everything that can make it take longer to get pregnant and why it's harder nowadays for many women to conceive, purely because of our food.
Because there are all kinds of chemicals in it.
I'm going to adjust my diet to eat as much organic food as possible.
And try to skip the sweets, cookies, and chips haha.
You feel much better because of it, and for my partner and me, it also boosts fertility.
I'm not doing it just to get pregnant, but also for my own health.

I'm rooting for everyone to get pregnant soon.

    Love,
  17. shannah #77

Yes Viviane, it takes some practice and it's different for everyone, right. For us, it was just a combination of penetration and clitoral stimulation once we got the hang of it, it was really super simple!

Kelsi, it all sounds so familiar to me! I also had the whole household routine: ovulation tests, temperature tracking, and those apps. Every month I was intensely focused on it, and in the end, it was the month when we were super busy and only had sex a few times that it worked I myself am on the heavier side and was indeed dieting when I got pregnant. I think eating healthy combined with lots of exercise really helped!! Good luck
  18. Vivian #78

Shan, do you just go missionary and use your own fingers?
  19. shannah #79

Viv, I always say my husband has magic fingers haha he did all the work. Indeed missionary and stimulation by my husband. I just lay there enjoying it lol.
  20. Vivian #80

Hihi, so he is handy then! My husband has a magic touch...
