Preparation for childbirth

Hi hi,

I'm pregnant with our first baby and not sure what to expect. Could someone tell me what preparations we should make before the birth? And what to expect during labor (so we're not caught off guard)?

Hi, I'm not sure exactly what you mean.

Are you talking about practical things like insurance, maternity care, toys, and the baby's room, or more about your hospital bag, or do you want to know what to expect during the birth itself?

I actually mean what all needs to happen before the birth, like some people talk about preparing a fluid-absorbing pad, drinking something to empty the bowels, shaving, ... But also what to expect during the birth. Maybe also which things to arrange in advance with the OB-GYN, like taking photos of the weight or other things that would otherwise pass us by too quickly.

Something like childbirth isn't something you can really prepare for. It's something you have to let happen to you; you can't even imagine it because in practice, you experience it differently than you imagined in your head. In reality, it turns out completely different. Those are the kinds of things I think you can't prepare for in advance; there's nothing to compare it to. Just like becoming a mother. You basically have to go through it to understand it. But that's just my personal view on it. Greetings, Madelene
