tips for cesarean section

Hi ladies,

I'm having a natural C-section soon.
Do you have any tips on what I should/shouldn't do, or things I need to watch out for, etc.?
I do have books and such, but practice often differs.
I also have a toddler running around..I'm curious how that will go after the C-section...

I had my C-section on 31/3. It was supposed to be with an epidural, but since they couldn't place it, I ended up going under general anesthesia. The first two days were tough; I still had a lot of pain. On day 2, I was allowed to get out of bed for a bit, just standing still. I'd recommend you do that too; it goes so much smoother after that. On day 4, I already took the baby out of bed to breastfeed her and was walking around quite smoothly. Every day after that got a bit better. Last Sunday (10 days after the procedure), I already went for an hour-long walk with the stroller. That went quite smoothly. Yesterday I had visitors all afternoon and went shopping. It really depends on how your body is handling it. Take some rest now and then, and you'll bounce back quickly, at least based on my experience.

Two years ago I had a c-section and it was in June again. Let it wash over you; it’s not as bad as you think. The recovery is tough and takes a long time. The severe pain lasts about a week or two, and the discomfort (like pain when sneezing, for example) lasts much longer, but it still wasn’t that bad. Be careful how you get up after lying down: don’t just roll over normally. Believe me: if you do it wrong just once, you’ll regret it aw ;-). What’s also very important is the psychological side of a c-section. It’s often underestimated, and since many women cling to the pink cloud, there’s not much said about it. The birth process is important for the realization. If you don’t have that, suddenly you have a baby. That can be hard to swallow. I knew the baby was coming, but it didn’t fully sink in when she was actually there. Super weird! It took a few days. In the beginning, I also had a feeling of failure, but since it was an emergency c-section, I was prepared for a birth, which helped. That feeling passed too, but I did struggle with it for a bit. The pain during recovery helped me get through: it felt like I had done my part too. It sounds crazy in hindsight, but that’s how it felt then. So try to prepare yourself mentally now. If you know it’s going to be a c-section beforehand, that should help. If you have any questions, feel free to ask

Thanks ladies! Yeah, it's really different for everyone, just like with a natural birth.
It's quite nice that you do know in advance that it makes a difference I think.
How are you doing now, Miss Butterfly, regarding the planned C-section? That feels different I think?

Yeah, indeed. And also: my daughter is almost two, so I really feel like her mom. I also feel pretty good at being a mom, so my confidence is much better. My pelvis is too narrow, and now the baby is also breech, so it's just as well it's his fault, nah ;-) I also know better what's coming. I'm dreading the first week. I really didn't have that pink cloud (that came much later), so I don't expect it now either. I just know now that it gets better and more beautiful. I didn't know that back then

    Hi ladies!

Well, I gave birth on May 5th to a huge son weighing 4525 grams at 38+6 weeks, so he didn't need to stay any longer My previous birth was traumatic, but I never could have imagined that a C-section could be so beautiful and special. I really enjoyed the whole C-section process, and he was placed directly on my chest and stayed right there... wow!! Recovery is also going great! A day after the surgery, I was already walking down the hallway, and the next day I wanted to go home. Now, two weeks later, I've spent the whole day alone with my toddler and baby for the first time, and it's going super well. We've come up with all sorts of tricks so I don't have to lift my toddler (18 kg), and I've had very little pain from the start, so my recovery is going very quickly, luckily... which was different with my previous birth... so nice to enjoy this now!!
