Hi everyone,
I'm exactly 40 weeks pregnant today.
And I keep getting sharp pains at the bottom of my belly along with a menstrual-like pain feeling.
Could these be contractions?
The little one is also moving around from time to time; could that be the reason for the painful feeling?
It does keep coming back though.
Greetings, Erica

Hi, my experience is that you really do recognize a contraction. But if it's just rumbling around, it probably won't be long before it starts!

    Good luck!

Hi Erica, a contraction that comes and then goes away again. What you're describing as a "poke" doesn't really seem like that. But don't worry, it won't be long now.

The pain and stabs have already subsided.
But secretly, I was hoping it would continue because I really don't feel like waiting anymore.
But yeah, the boy will come when he wants to.

    Hi Erica,
it’s actually often when labor starts that your baby becomes a bit calmer. The twinges you describe, I recognize them too. (I’m 39 weeks now). I get the impression that my baby is pushing nicely downward and making room for labor. I’m also hoping to feel a contraction any moment now. And believe me, you’ll know a contraction right away ;-)

Good luck, girl, and hopefully we can both say YES to a baby this week!

    Love, Uk

    hello uk,
that could indeed be a good reason for those stitches.
I hope we can say that too!
good luck in advance with your delivery

Yeah, that damn waiting... And with every contraction, you think it's time. Just hold on a little longer. I hope it picks up soon.

My experience with the first one was that you really do feel it, you know... hihi

My 2nd and 3rd labors started with sharp stabs. They'd hit a peak and then drop off again. The midwife told me then that they weren't contractions. And because my 2nd baby hadn't dropped yet, I thought those stabs had nothing to do with it. Until the 3rd labor actually started that way—the staces came closer and closer together, got really intense, and then subsided again. During the labor, my 3rd baby was incredibly active. You could just see my belly moving... which doesn't happen often. That a baby is so active during labor.
