C-section or natural birth?

Hi everyone!

I'm 37 weeks pregnant and had an appointment at the hospital yesterday to discuss the birth. My first daughter was in breech position, and while I naturally wanted to give birth vaginally, she didn't descend during labor, so it ended up being a C-section. After that, I always said the next one would be a planned C-section, but as you can guess, since I got pregnant again, I'd actually prefer to give birth naturally, which is what I indicated yesterday. But now I'm suddenly really scared. Especially because it's quite possible my husband won't be able to make it to the birth. I keep picturing myself lying there alone, it not working out, and me being rushed to the OR again, but this time completely alone.

I should say the staff was really nice last time and reassured me at every moment, but still. I only have the experience of the first birth. Has anyone had experience with a natural birth for a second child after a previous C-section? Right now, all I can think about is a scar tearing open, and I'm wondering if I shouldn't just go for a planned C-section (also because my husband would then be able to be there in time).

And, finally, what a question for a pregnant woman, right . I'm so moody during this pregnancy; I'm already finding it hard to decide what to cook for dinner .

    Hi Lanama

Yes, I totally relate. My first was also breech and ended with a C-section. My second was also breech, and we turned him the day before the scheduled C-section.
That was quite a shock because everything was already planned, and they were going to deliver him by C-section, but in the end, I had a normal birth, which turned out to be much easier than I expected.
Now, 6 years later, I'm pregnant with number 3. I had the choice between a C-section or a natural birth, and my preference was for a C-section because my husband works a lot abroad, and I was so afraid he wouldn't be there in time.
But I thought it over carefully and saw more advantages to a natural birth, which is what I ended up doing. I'm so happy because my husband was there, and our girl was born in just 3 hours. It was super fast, but I felt great and was up and running right away, which made it a wonderful experience with our little miracle.
It's still tough, but my gut feeling leans toward a natural birth.

Wishing you lots of success and hoping you'll soon have your beautiful little miracle in your arms.

Thanks for your reply. I think I'll try that too and hope everything goes as planned. ??

If it doesn't work out as planned, they can still intervene Follow your gut. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to choose: I had a C-section here because my pelvis is too narrow. Recovery apparently is even heavier and slower the second time, so I'm quite apprehensive about that. Just for that reason alone, although it seems like a normal birth can also turn out to be less intense than expected.

    Hey miss butterfly,

I can see why they say a second C-section is heavier than the first. But I experienced it completely differently. After the first one, which was an emergency C-section, I was able to take care of myself and my son again after just two weeks. And with the second one, I was already back on my feet after the postpartum week. With my third, it went super fast—I had my son on December 24th, and on the second day of Christmas, I was already allowed to go home because my son was doing so well.

So it can also be the other way around. I think the difference was that the other two were planned, and I made sure to rest as much as possible beforehand. I tried to keep stress to a minimum for myself. For my second, I made sure the baby could stay in the recovery room with me. And with the third, I had what they call a 'natural' C-section. That one was really so nice; I would honestly recommend it to everyone. They don't offer it in every hospital, so it's a bit of a phone call and maybe driving a bit further, but it's a really special and nice experience.

    Love,
