Fear of a fast delivery, choosing a home birth?

Irma 1987
Hi! With my first, I went into labor at 8 am but wanted to go to the hospital, but they said I had to stay because he had pooped in the amniotic fluid.

Now I'm curious, I'm going to let it happen and see what's easiest in the moment.
I also live pretty close by if anything happens.

I had a fairly smooth delivery with my first, only 25 minutes of pushing and a small tear.

Second or third usually goes faster, but again, every labor is different.

Hi Irma, yes, that went smoothly for you too! The first one took me 6 hours in total, but the back labor felt like it would never end.
We’re also lucky that we don’t live too far from the hospital.
The reason my husband and I initially chose the hospital was to avoid any hassle. At the hospital, you’re taken care of and don’t have to deal with all that mess.
That’s also why I chose the hospital for my girls.
You’re absolutely right; no birth is the same, so I should keep that in mind.
This whole pregnancy has been quite different so far compared to when I had my girls.
    Thanks for sharing your thoughts
    Greetings, Madelene

Same here. Especially the tiredness and some mild symptoms I had back then too.

But still a different feeling, I'm leaning towards a boy again hehe silly right

    Oo okay hi hi
No worries, it's not weird, maybe it feels familiar to you
I'm hoping for a boy now,
but a girl is just as welcome, of course!
I'm so incredibly happy to be pregnant again.
You're not going to find out what it is, right?
    Or are you?

I don't know yet for the first one, but now I find it pretty hard.

We really want to know super badly. Especially my husband.
He doesn't let me talk about the 20-week ultrasound anymore because he gets nervous.
And it takes even longer for him haha.
We'll find out on November 3rd at the 20-week ultrasound
So you mean you let it be a surprise at the first one?
And now you're wondering if you want to know?

I had him on October 27th, at 19 weeks.
  7. madelene #8

    Oh, that's earlier than mine.
    Exciting, isn't it?
  8. madelene #9

You’ve got a cute little one, by the way.

My first birth took (from the first contractions and breaking waters on the toilet, waking up at 8:10 in the morning) a bit more than 3 hours (at 11:21 my daughter was on my chest.
Nice at home, I thought, with the midwife and maternity care nurse.
But my placenta didn't come out and I still had to go to the hospital (urgently, so sirens and lights) (with a broken stretcher and that's no fun, with 5 attempts to get the ambulance to come).

Now I really want to give birth at home again.
Own house, familiar smells, own stuff, can shower right away and get into your own bed.
But now I don't have a choice and I'm "obliged" to give birth in the hospital, due to a medical indication.

My feeling was also not good about having to go outside twice with a newborn baby.
    It was December, so cold.
In March it can also be cold, there can be snow... Do you still want to go from the hospital to home with a baby then?

    Good luck with your decision!

Hi Madelene... I wasn't allowed to give birth at home. With the oldest, I was in the hospital anyway since it was my first time, and with Senna, I was induced at 37 weeks, but this labor went so fast... ten minutes, but my placenta stayed behind, so I was rushed to the operating room. Now the OB-GYNs say that with a next baby, I should give birth on their labor ward from now on. Given your situation, I'd still do what your husband says, but maybe arrange something with the hospital considering the fast labor of the youngest, so you can come in right with the first contraction, before it's too late and you give birth on the way. Gr, Esra

I'd just let Jenever handle the labor.

Felicia, do you mean this seriously or are you just making fun of Madelene?
  13. Miep #14

If you read more of Felicia's posts, you'll know that you shouldn't take her seriously.
When she's on her best behavior, she claims to have been 11 months pregnant with triplets, delivered the babies herself, and lifted a baby's head after just two days—but her photos are stolen from another profile.

Well, I didn't think the hospital was bad either. You're allowed to shower as much as you want and walk around. I also had a really nice midwife and OB-GYN.

That makes a huge difference too.

Hi ladies, thank you so much for your advice and experiences.
Oh my, Miep, that sounds like it was really tough for you.
Glad you made it through okay.
But that’s how it can go too.
Yes, I can totally imagine that it’s not fun having to walk around the street with a baby.
And Esra, that’s a good one. I think I’ll indeed bring it up with the midwife at the first contraction to ask if I can go to the hospital then?
That would take away a lot of the fear of giving birth again so soon.
    Thanks for your tip
Oh my, I also think Miep is right, ladies, and that Felicia, the one who’s reacting so childishly here, is the same person who was supposedly pregnant with triplets before.
Let’s ignore her; she clearly lacks attention.
Poor thing, it’s really sad that she has to draw attention to herself like that.

I gave birth at home and it went really well for me. I was actually supposed to go to the hospital because he had pooped in the amniotic fluid, but the midwife didn't dare move me because she was afraid I'd give birth in the car... But I'm so glad it was at home, and I didn't see any of the mess at all; the postpartum care worker cleaned it up while I was showering.. I'd definitely choose home birth again next time, having your own things around you, your own bed.. I thought home was super!
  17. Esra♡♥ #18

eh Felicia....know-it-all, yeah or are you gonna do it for me since you're an expert in giving birth to triplets without any help while being 11 months pregnant... I think Madelene will definitely call you.

I really want to give birth at home too. For whatever reasons were mentioned above: nice and cozy at home, familiar surroundings, my own stuff. Plus, you have to start labor at home anyway, so I’d rather finish it there too. Otherwise, with contractions in a taxi through the cold... No way, I’d rather stay in my own bed.
My partner also prefers the hospital and thinks giving birth at home is a scary idea. But we talked about it a few weeks ago with the midwife, and she talked him through it completely, and now he’s on board too.
Postpartum care does tidy up the mess, of course, and in case of an emergency, I can get to the hospital quickly, and if I change my mind, the midwife can drive us (we don’t have our own car). Three more months, I’m so excited!

For the first one, I really wanted to give birth in the hospital, and in the end, with a medical indication, that’s what happened. I was induced, and that really can’t be done at home..

For this birth, I chose the hospital again. I don’t like having all those people in my house; I have 2 big dogs that get freaked out, and now a little girl who might be sleeping (if it starts at night). The decision was made very quickly. Maybe I’ll think differently when I’m in labor and need to go to the hospital. And you can change your mind at the last moment, so I’m making sure everything’s okay at home just in case I don’t want to go to the hospital.
