My rule of thumb is always: if in doubt, don't do it! The packaging often has enough warnings to watch out for, e.g., wear gloves with this product, or ventilate the area well. The warning symbols can also help you out.

I don't know which cabinets you mean, but there are also plenty of natural products that are absolutely safe. For my kitchen cabinets, I simply use plain cleaning vinegar, and for the woodwork, I use beeswax.
