Hi there, just a quick question: I had an ultrasound today. I'm 9 weeks pregnant. Does that mean I got pregnant 9 weeks ago, or 2 weeks after that? Can anyone help me with this question?

Hi Meissie, I had to decode what you wrote there for a bit, but I think I got it.

Simply put, if your doctor says you're 9 weeks pregnant, you're actually only 2 weeks pregnant. This is kind of an old-school thing because they couldn't measure as accurately back in the day, so they started counting from the beginning of your period.

What I meant is, does the ultrasound go from the moment of conception? Or from the last day of my period? If I calculate it that way, I was still not pregnant then and hadn't been for the whole week

@Esther.. Probably meant 2 weeks shorter.. So Meissie was 'conceived' 7 weeks ago. The ultrasound doesn't base its calculations on your conception date, but rather on 2 weeks before that...

Whoops, I meant 7 weeks. So indeed 2 weeks shorter.
