There are 2 instead of 1, but one is weak and small.

Hi there,

After 2.5 years, we finally got pregnant through an IUI treatment. After 4 attempts, it finally worked! We were so happy and heading into 2015 super excited with the thought of a baby growing inside us. Last week, though, I had some light bleeding twice, so I made an appointment with the midwife just to be safe.

When we went to the midwife, they did an internal ultrasound. Luckily, everything seemed fine, but... we saw something else on the scan. Not 1 baby, but 2! (We knew there was a risk of multiples with IUI, but never thought it would actually happen.)

After careful looking and measuring, it turned out that one baby was doing really well, but unfortunately, the other wasn't. The second baby is a week behind and has a very weak heart.

We're hoping they'll both be okay, but we're not expecting much yet.

Has anyone here experienced something similar? We're really curious to hear other stories and get a bit of reassurance.

We're currently 5 weeks pregnant.

    Hi Peetiej,

Congratulations on your pregnancy! And it's so unfortunate that the ultrasound brought up some concerns. My story is different from yours, but there's a similarity somewhere. When I was five weeks pregnant, I started bleeding, and unfortunately, it continued after a few days. I thought it was a miscarriage, but three weeks later, I was still testing positive and still felt pregnant. The ultrasound showed that I had been pregnant with twins, and I had lost one. Now I'm 15 weeks pregnant with the one baby who stayed. I want to let you know that IF things don't go well with the baby who's lagging behind, it doesn't have to affect the other baby. But I'm mainly hoping that both your babies will do well, so you can hold a beautiful twin in your arms soon. Strength with all the tension and uncertainty.

    Greetings,
    Sunshine
