5 weeks pregnant but my sister is being really cold.

Last Saturday I took a test and the result was positive! My husband and I were so happy with the result, and for myself, I just had to tell my sister. My sister and I have an incredibly close bond and we talk to each other every day and see each other at least 4 times a week. Unfortunately, when I told her, she reacted quite coolly, and I brushed it off as shock, needing time to adjust, and that things would be fine afterward.

Today I spoke to her again, and now I'm getting a bit worried. She told me she's happy for me but that she's not happy that I'm pregnant already. According to her, I'm way too young (I just turned 25) and that the good relationship my sister and I have will go away once the baby is born. We've always had quite big plans. We really want to go to New York together, and according to her, that's not happening anymore. I think we should postpone it because I'll be almost due by then, but it's still in my plans!

I hope someone can give me advice because I'm really struggling with this. Thanks in advance!

    @anoniem,

    First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy. How old is your sister? I don't think you're old at all. Could it be that your sister is jealous that you're already pregnant?

    Anyway, I hope you enjoy your pregnancy, and I hope your sister comes to terms with it.

    Maybe ask her what exactly her vision is for when you and your husband have a baby.

    The bond doesn't have to change, but having a little one around will change things a bit.

    Good luck with everything, and enjoy your pregnancy!

    Hi. What a shame your sister reacted like that! It was kind of the same for me. My sister wasn't happy at first either, but I know her so well that I had kind of expected this beforehand. I'm a twin and have a really strong bond with my sister, so something similar to what happened with your sister regarding distance and stuff played out with her too. But within a week she had completely come around and was already looking for baby stuff. Maybe your sister just needs a little time to get used to the idea. I'd try to involve her as much as possible in everything. I think that helps too. Good luck!
