Drank without knowing I was pregnant

Hi everyone,

I found out two days ago that I'm pregnant. This is our first pregnancy and we're really looking forward to this baby!

I'm just really panicking because I haven't eaten healthily, but mostly because I drank alcohol during the time I didn't know I was pregnant. Conception was either on November 9th or 14th, 2014. In November, I had the occasional glass of beer or wine on some days. But there were also two days where I drank more than just a sip. For example, on November 25th I drank about 450 ml of pure Malibu, and on November 27th I had three glasses of wine. Of course, I haven't touched a drop since I found out I'm going to be a mom. I've also started taking folic acid.

I'm really scared that I've harmed our unborn child.

If anyone has experienced something similar or can reassure me, even just a little, I'd really appreciate it!

Very worried soon-to-be mom

    Good morning,

I don't know if what you did was 100% okay, but I've read stories about people who didn't know they were pregnant and still had some aperitif or a couple of glasses of wine with dinner. And everything turned out fine.

The most important thing is that you don't drink any more alcohol now...

    Lots of love!
    Good luck with your pregnancy!

Really don't stress about it... up to about 6 or 7 weeks, it's hardly harmful. There's still no direct connection with the baby yet. Besides, a lot of women will relate to what you're saying... and it worked out fine for them. I myself still drank quite a bit at the bar in week 4, and a few beers in week 5. Indeed, stopping right now is the most important thing. Good luck!

Dear Tamara and Lili, thank you so much for your replies. It's nice to know that someone read my story and took the time to respond. I have my first appointment with the midwife in early January, and I hope our baby is developing well.
Thanks again for your responses. I don't know if Lili is pregnant, but I see that Tamara is 32 weeks pregnant. Wishing you both a lovely final stretch of pregnancy!

Good luck with the midwife! It'll definitely go well.
Thanks to you too, I'm almost 23 weeks already. Things are going great!!

Maybe it gives you some peace of mind. Back in the day, it wasn't so well-known about smoking etc. during pregnancy. My mom also smoked and sometimes had a glass of wine when she was pregnant with me, and I'm doing fine, you know. :0)

Many women don't even know they're pregnant and give birth to healthy babies.

First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy! A friend of mine is really a night-out type. She drank and smoked throughout her entire pregnancy. She only found out she was pregnant when she went into labor. Suddenly, she had stomach pain and cramps, and had no idea what was happening to her. She went to the hospital and that same evening held her newborn son in her arms. Everything was fine with her boy, and now, 30 years later, he's still doing great. You'll just have to wait and see, but personally, based on experiences from others I know, I think it'll be okay. Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy! :-)

That was also my worry. I had my ovulation in exactly the same week and only found out yesterday that I'm pregnant! I also ate a lot of white cheese and other things that aren't really supposed to be eaten. I'm only starting folic acid today too, is that going to be really bad? I'm reading everywhere that I should have started earlier...
