Pregnant or not?

Hi everyone.
Last week I took a pregnancy test. I could already feel in my body that it was a hit: I got very sore breasts and my belly felt like there was 'air' in it. It's my 1st time, so I don't know from experience how it feels, or what you're 'supposed to feel', if you can even say that. The test was unmistakable! After a few seconds, the word 'pregnant' blinked on the screen. Later it said I would be about 4 or 5 weeks along. I still need to go to the GP.
Now it's scary: since the test I feel nothing anymore! The pain in my breasts is decreasing day by day and they feel almost normal again. I also feel nothing in my belly. Does anyone have experience with this? Can this happen while you're still pregnant?
I want this so much, I'm almost panicking...

    Hi 1e x,

If the test says you're 4-5 weeks pregnant, then you really are pregnant. At 1 week, a false positive can happen, but at 4-5 weeks, that's really not the case :-)

The sore breasts come from the sudden hormonal fluctuations and can indeed start to feel better quite soon.

What you're describing doesn't sound like anything went wrong at all.

Oh Annabel, that’s really nice to hear! It puts my mind at ease again. I managed to make an appointment with the GP this morning, so I’ll know more soon. Until then, I’m really glad for (and calmer because of) your reply. Thank you! :-)

Hi 1st x, I'm glad to hear that. I can totally imagine you being startled.

I think it's like this: hormones from the little embryo can come out, and you can react strongly to them. It's only a bit later in your pregnancy that you start producing a lot more hormones yourself and only then do you really 'notice' that you're pregnant. How you react to this varies from woman to woman. Not everyone notices that they're pregnant.

With your GP, you probably won't find out much more, I'm afraid. They'll refer you to the midwife or, if there's a reason or if you'd like to, to an obstetrician. If you have a good GP, they might explain a bit more and maybe even take a pregnancy test, but nothing you can't do yourself.

If you really want to know how things are going, you could have an (internal) ultrasound. But I don't think you qualify for that since you're not losing any blood. If you're not losing blood, you normally don't need to worry either. Until then, I wouldn't stress too much and just enjoy it.

    Love, Annabel

    Annabel,
Thank you so much! I feel so much calmer now, and I'm really happy that you took the time to write your response to me. Yesterday, I was really close to panicking.
I also ended up on the phone with the VK yesterday, and they basically said exactly what you did. According to her calculations, I won't qualify for an ultrasound until the 10th week (mid-April), because there's no reason to do it earlier. :-D:-D
Yesterday started off a bit uncertain, but in the end, it turned out to be a lovely, happy day!

As you already advised: I'm now enjoying myself thoroughly! Thank you, and lots of love back to you!

    I’ve got it too!
For example, right now I’m craving everything, but after just two bites I’m already full—even though three days ago I couldn’t get full and had no cravings at all (but that empty feeling isn’t great either...).
And I believe more experienced moms deal with those fluctuating symptoms too

I’m currently 8 weeks and 2 days pregnant, and my first appointment is on April 19th. I’m really so curious—it’s my first one too!

SabrinaS, I had to laugh at what you wrote! It was exactly like that for me! :-)

I've looked into it a bit more and talked to more girls and moms. I'm really at ease now. Especially since there's indeed no identifiable reason to be worried. I'm enjoying all the new things and quirks. Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to April 23rd. That's when I have my first appointment at the VK.

So mostly positive. But it's still exciting! ;-)

    You enjoy it too, right?!
