pregnant but unsure due to very low progesterone

Hi,

I’ve been pregnant again for a while now after a miscarriage in March. In 2012, we welcomed a healthy son without any issues ever arising.
However, with my miscarriage, I suddenly started bleeding around 5 weeks, which turned out to be due to a progesterone deficiency.
I immediately got prescribed Utrogestan, but at 9 weeks, it went wrong due to a placental abruption.
Now I’m 5 weeks and 4 days along, and we’re back in the same boat. I had to have my blood tested weekly; last week the values were good, but this week at 5w and 1d, my HCG was only 429 and progesterone was 6.5.
I had blood drawn again tonight.
Can someone share a similar story? Does anyone have any idea why my progesterone suddenly drops and why I didn’t have this issue with my son?
I’m at my wit’s end, and I’m becoming quite unhappy with all this negative news.

    Hi Jen,

I share your story. I also don't produce enough progesterone.
I gave birth to my son in 2012 and had a miscarriage in March after 2 weeks of bed rest and taking Utrogestan.
Currently 8.5 weeks pregnant and have been taking Utrogestan from the start. Had one bleed, but everything has been ok so far. Had 2 ultrasounds and 2 beating hearts.
I'm crossing my fingers that things go well for you too.
My son had bleeding, minimal, until 14 weeks.
I fear I'm going down the same path now.

    Hi Annadam,

Unfortunately, it didn't work out for me this weekend.
I had to start taking Clomid right away to address the issue before ovulation.
My gynecologist said this happens because my ovulation quality is good but not sufficient to last long enough for my body to take over on its own.
With Clomid, the eggs should be top quality, and this should be resolved that way.
Let's hope so, because I really can't handle many more miscarriages, and my desire for a child is so strong!

Hopefully, the baby is doing well with you now, and you'll be able to enjoy it in a few months!
    I'm rooting for you!

I'm now 15 weeks pregnant and have regular brown discharge. Last week I had some bleeding for a few days, which was quite a scare. The ultrasounds have all been good, and the heartbeat is strong as ever. I'm taking progesterone again now and suspect the bleeding was related to temporarily stopping the progesterone (on my doctor's advice). The advice now is to rest a lot and hope the discharge decreases, but I'm not getting clarity on whether I should continue with the progesterone or not. Is it harmful to take progesterone throughout the entire pregnancy?

I also have an underactive thyroid, but we monitor this periodically and adjust with medication (Levothyroxine).

Everything will be fine, and thanks for your tips

8 weeks and 2 days pregnant, hcg level 58390, progesterone 16.05. I've had miscarriages before. The GP says the progesterone is low, but the OB-GYN says it's fine. Should I worry, or will everything be okay?

    Hi ladies,
I’d like to join in on this topic.
At 5 weeks pregnant, I had my blood drawn and my hCG was 377 and progesterone was 7.7. Today (6 weeks pregnant), I had my blood drawn again, and my hCG had risen nicely to 4297, but my progesterone had dropped to 6.6. Shortly after the blood test, I started bleeding heavily, which led to a miscarriage. I only received all my blood results (including the one from 5 weeks) today, so the low progesterone level wasn’t noticed in time. I did take Utrogestan once orally starting from 5 weeks.

Are there any other ladies here with such low progesterone levels and multiple miscarriages (this was my third)? What did you do about it?

    Best wishes

I had 3 early miscarriages due to low progesterone.
Tip: insert the Utrogestan vaginally (it's better absorbed that way than orally), and do it 3 times a day that's when things went well for me, and now I'm 17 weeks today!
I took this until 8 weeks, then slowly started tapering off, and from 12 weeks I took nothing more.

    Hi Ano,
    Thanks for your reply!
And especially: congratulations! I'm so happy you're keeping this one!! My thumbs are working overtime for you!!
I wasn't in a medical treatment because I got pregnant relatively quickly (3 times in 1 year), and they don't always count early miscarriages. After my 2nd miscarriage, the gynecologist prescribed Utrogestan with the instruction to take it from a positive pregnancy test, once a day orally. However, they never checked my progesterone levels; they just prescribed it because it had already gone wrong twice early on. The GP mentioned in an email about my blood results that my progesterone was very low during pregnancy. This afternoon I'm going to see a fertility specialist; curious what they'll say.
Do you have any idea what your progesterone was like during your miscarriages? And what it was with your patch?
