How long awake??? 7 months old...

Hey Vera,

With my son it started around 7 months too!

The tip I got back then was to put him in bed at the exact same time every evening. (At first I didn't want to, because as a working mom I naturally wanted to enjoy my son after work,) but yeah, they need their sleep. You basically need the same routine every day so your child knows it's time to go to bed.

Around 7 PM I'd change him (diaper), wash his face and hands with a washcloth, then put on his pajamas. After that, he got his last bottle. After the bottle, we'd read a book. I still do this every day now, and he knows that's bedtime...

He's almost 17 months now. He eats at the table now, but those rituals stay the same afterward and it helps. Now that he can talk, after I put his pajamas on, he says "drink milk" and "dodo" (sleep in French).

I also forgot to mention that at that age they still need their naps..
It all depends on what time they wake up in the morning?
For example, my son sleeps from 8pm until the next day between 5am or sometimes 6 or 7 (somewhere in those hours)

If it's the weekend (or my days off) then I give him his milk, change him and we go back to sleep until 9am for example, by 11:30 or 12 he eats his veggies with meat or fish, after his meal I wash him and by then it's 1pm and I know he needs his nap (as long as we stay home) otherwise he stays awake if we go out
And during the week when I have to work he gets out of bed between 5 and 6am, and once at grandma's he takes a nap around 10 or 11am

So yes, if they're tired, let them sleep otherwise they get fussy and have trouble with their sleep routine

    Good luck Vera

And once at mom's, he takes a nap around 10 or 11 am === I mean the "grandma"

It's tough. In the first few months, our son slept fine until 6/7 hours, but now for about 2 months he hasn't been doing that anymore, waking up restless and crying at night. You do get tired from lack of sleep.

I do the same here with rocking and stuff. And then I put him back down when he's asleep. And sometimes he lies with us (I'm not sure), but if you have to get up and work, why not? We all sleep during the day. He sleeps for an hour in the morning and 1 to 1.5 hours in the afternoon. During the day, I manage to get him to sleep better, weird right? What I sometimes do is take a walk in the fresh air, and he sleeps then too.

I'm also not someone who lets him cry unnecessarily, I think he's too little for that, and you never know what's bothering him.

    Hi Vera,

I was wondering if you've already found a solution and what it was? My baby does exactly the same in the mornings and during the day (also 7 months old). I feel like I've tried everything... He/She sleeps well in the evening and at night, but is always awake around 5/5:30 in the morning.

    Greetings, Romy
