How reliable is a pregnancy test?

Hi,

I gave birth to my son on January 9th.
I was 21 weeks pregnant at the time.
My son was not viable.
My biggest dream is to get pregnant again.
A few days ago, I took a pregnancy test.
I know it's way too early, but I just don't have the patience.
The result was clearly negative.
This morning, I took another test from a different brand.
And I see a very faint line, barely visible.
Am I pregnant, or can this just be an unclear result?
The line was visible to me after 5 minutes and has stayed the same until now.

I took a photo of both the positive and negative tests.
But I had to darken them a bit to make the line visible in the photo, and you really have to look closely.
The top one is the one with the very faint, light line.
Don't look too far to the right, though, because that's the end of the test strip.
I did have to open the test up to take the photo.
Does anyone have experience with this?

My hcg was definitely gone, no doubt about it.
I haven't had my period yet.
The gynecologist said I could try again right away and that there was a chance I could get pregnant again within 4 weeks.

Ah, that's where it's from! Your HCG levels double approximately every 3 days, so try doing a cheap test every 3 days, like from Action or something, so you won't go broke either!

Congratulations! Let me know if you've tested again!

Tested again this morning and it looked negative to me. It could also be that this one is less sensitive. I'll keep you posted
    Don't lose hope yet.

    Hi Heart

That's really tough for you. I understand you want to try again right away.
What I know is that a test can only be positive (no matter how faint the line is) if there is hormone present. So you can't test positive if you don't have hormone in your urine.
It could indeed be that there is still hCG from your previous pregnancy, but I believe you only produce hCG up to a certain number of weeks, after which it decreases and progesterone takes over.
I've had a few miscarriages, where it went wrong much earlier than for you, but the hCG really stayed for weeks. So I don't have a ready-made answer for you. I'm afraid you'll have to be patient. :-(

    Greetings, Wens

    Thanks for your replies.
I've decided never to buy that brand of test again since my reliable test was negative and I've already gotten my period, unfortunately.
But we're not giving up. We'll just calculate the cycle again and try once more. Thanks.
