What should you do if you don't like drinking milk?

Hi ladies, I'm 8 weeks pregnant and recently heard that I should drink a lot of milk because it's good for me. But I don't like milk, yogurt, or any other dairy products. Otherwise, I eat healthily with lots of vegetables, potatoes, rice, meat, and sometimes fish.

Should I really worry about this, or should I start taking calcium tablets, or is it not a big deal?

Thanks in advance for your answer!

    Hi Esther,

The reason you should consume more milk during pregnancy is probably due to a higher need for calcium.

Calcium is a mineral that ensures optimal growth and development for the fetus. During the first few months, the fetus has a higher need for calcium for the development of the skeletal system.

Because of this increased need, more calcium is also drawn from your body, including from bones like your teeth, to transport it to the fetus via the placenta and umbilical cord. This means your teeth might weaken during pregnancy.

With that in mind, I still recommend getting the necessary amount of calcium from other foods. There are foods enriched with calcium or supplements available.

However, do NOT take supplements on your own initiative; always consult your doctor first.

    Greetings. :-)
