Ladies, I'm Sharona and I'm 22 years old. I'm currently trying to conceive but without success. I've been trying for 2 years now. I'd really like to ask you all if you know which days of the cycle I have the best chance of getting pregnant and...

Ladies, I'm really getting confused now because I tested on day 9 today and... nothing to see. No line at all. But yesterday on day 8 there was a clear line. So did I ovulate that early? My cycle is always 28 days. But now I'm a bit panicked. Yesterday my boyfriend had a severe headache, so you understand we couldn't do anything. Am I still in time today to have intercourse if I tested positive yesterday and now I don't see any line at all? Greetings, Sharona -

I don't understand any of this. Tested positive on days 7 and 8, now negative. Is it still worth it? And how on earth did I ovulate so early, on days 7 and 8? -

Oh wow... you're telling me something there. I don't really know how that would work, but maybe I'll just give her a call anyway. That uncertainty sounds like a pain, girl... pfff... s6 -

Thanks for your advice about those 3 days after ovulation. I'm hoping it still makes sense today, like you said, 3 days after ovulation. I did have intercourse the day before yesterday and tested positive for ovulation with a thick, dark line. But now I'm a bit unsure because you also need to do it the second day after. Anyway, thanks for your advice about those 3 days after ovulation and that it's still useful. Greetings, Sharona -

What do you think, is it still worth it now? Yesterday the test was clearly positive, but now I see nothing. But if it's like you say, then I might still have a chance tonight? Sorry for this long message, greetings Sharona -

Hi Sharona,
What a hassle it all is.
Coincidentally, I read this this morning in another forum; This phase (ovulation) lasts about 14 days in 10% of women with a regular cycle, but can vary from 7-19 days.
Having intercourse every other day is, I think, also the best. You have more chance than every day. I also bought ovulation tests now because I got pregnant quickly in the past. I've been at it for 3 months now and it feels like it's taking too long. But 2 years is a lot.
Have you talked to your GP yet? -

Hi Jenny, 33, thanks for your message. I guess I'll assume I have an early ovulation, which I still find quite strange with a 28-day cycle. But yeah, the logic doesn't quite add up since I always have a 28-day cycle. Anyway, I must ovulate earlier than usual. Today I tested again on day 10 of my cycle, and no, no ovulation. So my ovulation was clearly over, meaning it happened on days 7 and 8. On those days, I had such clear dark, thick lines on the ovulation test. -

And last year we went to the GP, got a referral straight away, and what do you know? I’m perfectly fine, and my partner is too. I ovulate regularly every month, and I even had a cohabitation test, which came back clear. The gynecologist told us to keep trying on our own, and if it doesn’t work out, come back and we’ll take it from there. Since he couldn’t find anything wrong, we need to keep trying on our own for now, which is why I’m now using ovulation tests. Best wishes, Sharona -

Sharona, your ovulation isn't on the day your test is positive, but 24-48 hours after. It's possible that your cycle is shorter this time than 28 days. Based on your positive tests this month, I think your cycle will be about 25-26 days. Your due date would then be around Christmas. We'll see if it's correct. I'd have sex today, because I think your ovulation is today.
Good luck!

but the next day? Just a quick question: I had intercourse on the day of my positive test (day 7), and on day 8 I tested positive again, but unfortunately, I didn't have intercourse that day because my boyfriend had a bad headache and had already fallen asleep. But the next day, I did have intercourse again. So my question is: did that still count? Greetings, Sharona -

I always get two positive ovulation tests, and the next day it’s negative. That day with the negative test is when I ovulate. In your case—Monday and Tuesday were positive, Wednesday is ovulation. Your intercourse from yesterday was right on target
Your period usually comes 14 days after ovulation. So that’s November 11 ovulation + 14 days = December 25. Looks like math class, huh?
I hope it’s a bit clearer now
Kind regards,

Don't forget that the community on days 7 and 8 also counts. Sperm can survive in your body for up to 3 days and then fertilize your egg. -

Hi Sophia, it's clear now, thanks for explaining this to me. I'm also very relieved that you wrote that it survives for 3 days and that I did it on the right days. I was so worried about this, and no one could tell me. You're the only one who cleared it up for me. Now it's exciting, this is the first time I'm going to have a short cycle. You really described it so beautifully and clearly. If only someone had explained this to me earlier, it would have saved me a lot of stress and confusion. And now it's just waiting for my period. I'll keep the other test strips for the next cycle. Thanks again so much! Best, Sharona -

I also have a quick question: does anyone know if it matters how many hours you have intercourse after a positive ovulation test? My husband had to work, and I got a positive ovulation test this afternoon around 12, but unfortunately, he had to leave for work on time. So my question is: do I still have a chance if we have intercourse tonight at 11 when he's back home? Greetings, Marieke -

Do women realize that you don't just get pregnant when you ovulate
and that sperm needs 24 hours to fertilize? If you're both healthy and there are no fertility issues, it really seems to me that you're not succeeding because you're so focused on it. The more stressed and busy you are with it, the longer it takes. I understand the desire is strong. But if you're only focused on getting pregnant and thinking about it all day long, believe me, it will only take longer and longer. Plus, it's not healthy either. Try to let go and just have sex because you want to, not to get a baby. You hear so many stories of couples who are so intense about it. And then when they decide to let it rest, they get pregnant. Give your body and nature a chance now. I think you'll achieve a lot with that. And 2 years isn't that long. I have friends and family who were also so focused on it, and it took them 5 years. And even then, it was because after 5 years they gave up and found some peace, and then got pregnant, because your body always reacts to stress. Besides, your uterus determines when the situation is 'healthy' enough to get pregnant. -

Angela, can I ask how long it took you to get pregnant? -

I already have 2 kids. The first one took 4 years of investigations, and neither I nor my husband had any issues. After four years, I finally got my daughter. I am so happy with her; she is extra special to me, besides the fact that she is naturally my girl. Is she extra special because I spent 4 years trying for her? My second daughter came faster, after 6 weeks, right before my daughter's first birthday. Now I want a third. My eldest daughter turned five at the end of January, and my youngest turned 3 in October. I really want a third, but I've been trying for a while—not long, but still, I'm getting impatient. I've been trying since the end of November. I also bought ovulation tests this week, which feels weird and a bit illogical because I naturally got my 2 kids without tests or anything like that. But yeah, I'm a bit impatient now, so I really want to get pregnant with the third this month. I hope it's granted to us. It feels weird with these ovulation tests because, in principle, I didn't need them for my other kids, but well, I tested on Friday and got a positive result. It was day 11, and today I tested again, and it's also positive. What I'm wondering now is: is it normal for the test to be positive for three days? I can't find anything about that in the leaflet. Greetings, Natalie -

Sorry, a little mistake. I meant I'm now working on a third one from the beginning of November. -

Hi Angela, I understand what you mean. It'll happen, especially since I'm focusing so much on it. But I also wonder if I'm doing it on the right days, since you only have 2 days a month when you can get pregnant. That's why I use ovulation tests. Best, Sharona -

A bit longer than 2 years.
