My boyfriend doesn't want kids YET.

Hi hi,

I don't know if I'm in the right place on the forum, but I just wanted to get something off my chest.
I think I have wobbly ovaries. However, my boyfriend doesn't see it that way right now and says he'd like to try for a baby at the end of the year. We're both 27 now.
I'm lying awake thinking about it and going to bed with it on my mind. I'm feeling quite distressed. Luckily, I can talk to him about it, but the feeling that I want to move forward remains.
Does anyone have an idea on how to find distraction? How to deal with this?

Thanks in advance.
Love, Fiederelsje

Hi Fiederelsje, I can totally understand you.
It must be hard if you're not really prepared to talk about something like that together.
It might be a weird comparison, but I've never had the problem of discussing our desire for kids and him not being ready, but rather the unpleasant situation of getting pregnant at a really wrong time.
It was such a sad time for me; I felt so alone, lonely, and even guilty. Instead of being happy about my first pregnancy, I felt very lonely and sad, with an intense pain.

When I told him about the pregnancy, he was confused, not happy, and said this can't happen, it shouldn't have happened, I can't see you right now, I'm pulling back. I was so sad, felt so lonely, so empty, intense pain. I thought maybe I'm being punished by heaven. Couldn't share my sadness with my mom either, had to lie to her about the reason for my sadness because I couldn't tell her about the affair and pregnancy; he was married.

After a month, he called me. He said I've been thinking.

And I want to raise the baby together with you. I can't ignore this child growing in your belly, our child. I'm getting a divorce and have confessed everything to my wife.

I was so relieved, it all happened, he came back and went to every single ultrasound with me.
We're now 12 years further and he's super with our girls, our two daughters.
What I'm trying to say here is, I do have a completely different, incomparable situation of course, but I can understand your disappointment.

I completely understand that feeling of disappointment when he's not ready yet, while all you want is to become a mother.
My advice is actually quite simple: give him the space and time to get used to the idea. Men really need that; they don't naturally have the same calmness as we do, and they can't visualize it yet. You'll see that he'll get used to the idea on his own because you gave him time, and eventually, he'll want to go for it too.
That's just how men are. Don't stress about it; it'll work out.
Then, once you've given him that space and he's ready to go for it, you'll both be happy together.
Instead of being alone, like in my situation.
Sorry for the long message, couldn't send it all at once.
    Greetings, Madelene

    Tricky, I'd say.

    My partner had that too.
I stopped the pill in Jan 2012 after discussing it due to physical complaints.

Over time, we had some risky sex, and after a few times, I had enough.
I talked to him about it. He wasn't ready for it yet.
Sure, it's possible, but then you have to be sure to take risks with sex, that was his responsibility.
So I started tracking my cycle so I knew when he was ready.

Half a year later, friends told us they were pregnant with their second... So the guys had toasted... On the way back, my partner says, "Shall we?" Uh, yes! But uh, you've been drinking, do you mean that?
Yes, he says. Ok, went to bed hopefully, but the next morning immediately asked for confirmation. And yes, it was!

So, wait and see, let him do his thing. Maybe give subtle hints.
