Hi! We’ve known for a little while now that it’s going to be a boy, but some people say it’s a girl because they’ve had similar experiences where the midwife said it was a boy, but it turned out to be a girl. So I’m really wondering if anyone else has had this happen. It’s making me a bit worried. I do trust the midwife, but you still have those mixed feelings, of course.
Best, Lientje

You hear more often that they got it wrong the other way around. They thought it was a girl and it turned out to be a boy. When you clearly see a penis and two balls on the ultrasound, the chance that it's a girl is pretty small. I wouldn't worry too much about it, and if needed, have another gynecologist do an ultrasound so you're sure. And even then... what if it turns out to be a girl at birth? As long as it's healthy

    Hi Lientje.

Both times, they got it right for us. We have 2 boys!! Usually, it's the other way around.

With a boy, they're always sure, they always told me.

Yeah, at mine they said it was a boy at 16 weeks, and 4 weeks later it turned out to be a girl. It was the umbilical cord that was between the legs.

I would have been a boy, and that clearly wasn't the case. A friend of mine had exactly the same experience (but she was part of a twin set, and the second one was indeed a boy). So it's possible they got it wrong. Nowadays, the quality of ultrasounds is quite good, so I think the chance is pretty small, but it can always happen. You can get a bit more certainty with a 4D ultrasound (though there might be some risks involved). I did have one of those ultrasounds myself, and you could really see everything very clearly.
