Swaddling, sticking with it?

Anyone have experience with swaddling?
Because my son (now 8 weeks old) cries a lot and is very restless (flailing arms), I got the advice to swaddle him after an observation period in the hospital. I use a Pacco swaddle blanket for this.
At first, it went okay for the first 2 days. But since yesterday he's started to struggle (read: squirming and crying). I stay with him for a bit until he calms down a bit, then let him cry for 5 to 10 minutes. Then I go back to reassure him. After about half an hour (sometimes up to an hour, with breaks), he finally falls asleep.
He also falls into a deep sleep, which he didn't manage to do very often before.
Now, the only thing is that seeing him struggle is really hard.
I also read that they need to get used to it and that they might have a little setback after a few days (which is what's happening to me now).
So I'm wondering what your experiences are with this?

Best, Vera

I don't have any experience with it, but I also understand that your baby needs to get used to it, and that takes time..

    Good luck.

    Love, sweetheart

I had the same experience with my son. He was well-rested at first, but then started fussing. I spent almost 3 hours on it. Let him cry for 15 minutes, soothe him, check his diaper, see if he was hungry, swaddle him again, and put him to bed. Every 15 minutes... It was exhausting! But he eventually slept, and I never had that struggle again! I felt really bad letting him cry, but since then, I can put him in bed while he's awake, without having to rock him to sleep or anything.

A very late reply but maybe useful for others. My daughter always slept swaddled for the first four months and it went super. Now she's sleeping in a sleep sack for the second night and it's working now too. Before that she was restless and slept much better in swaddle cloths. I first tried with a Puckababy but that didn't work because she was too loose and thus came loose. No effect. With a wrap it didn't work either. Eventually I started using a real swaddling technique. Really swaddling with two cloths like in the old days and that worked brilliantly. The idea scared me off at first but in the end it turned out to be simple and I could do it effortlessly. I used two tetra cloths, a big one and a small one. It's very very very important that swaddling is done correctly because otherwise unsafe situations can arise. I learned how to swaddle from the midwife/postpartum helper, maybe call someone like that or try based on photos from a book or something. It might not work equally well for every baby but for my little girl it worked well. Who knows if there's ever a second one, they might not like it at all...

    Happens, of course! Sorry...
