Haha, well I’m going to test tomorrow morning. As I’m typing this, I’m already scared it’ll be negative again, but if that’s the case, we’ll go for the next round!
I’m 23 myself and got married last August

@ roosje good luck tomorrow... Leave a little message! I'll be rooting for you!
@ katootjekip I'm 33, my boyfriend is too, and we're now on round 3... Though I feel more like it's round 2 since we didn't really get busy 'on time' in August. We did it 3 times around my ovulation, but we weren't in the mood... Hot, vacation, lazy... So it's round 3, but the 2nd time I'm paying more attention to my cycle.
@ jake, lots of luck with testing!! -

Just one more question.. Can you order the tests that come with the CB separately, or do you always have to order a new set?? -

Hey Roosje!
That doesn't mean anything, you know. You can sometimes test negative for 2 weeks and still end up being pregnant... But yeah, that uncertainty is killing! Right now, getting your period still feels like a relief; you can let everything go and move on to the next attempt...
Who knows, maybe it's positive after all, and if not, new round, new chances...
I've checked out the site, but I can only find full sets... -

I have a long weekend this week.. Off since yesterday.. Lovely! I'm working 3.5 days at daycare again. And you??
I can test again in early November, I'm on my period now. -
Roosje #26
Okay, sounds great! Well, I work in a clothing store and I was off on Monday and Thursday, and today. I get another day off tomorrow. I've got a bit of an irregular schedule at the moment. Actually, that's nice too, it keeps you distracted a bit.
But childcare, sounds fun! I've always found that interesting, but it's hard to find a spot...
Okay, so it's still a bit suspenseful. I think I'll go for the next round too, but I find it hard to calculate my fertile days right now because if my period doesn't come, it just keeps pushing back, right? -

Yeah, I have to say it's really super fun work! I enjoy it every day...
Maybe try using ovulation tests; they give you better insight into your cycle. But a late period this month doesn't mean everything will shift next month. Maybe next month you'll have a cycle like you're used to... The only thing is that ovulation happens 2 weeks BEFORE your next period, and you don't know when that will be... If you use ovulation tests, you do know... -
Roosje #28
Okay! Thanks for the tip
I'll keep that in mind. I'll just wait and see what happens... sigh, the waiting... I should do something to keep myself busy today, haha -
katootjekip #29
Hi Linda,
I think you're right, you probably can't buy the individual tests. I was looking for them too but couldn't find any.
Roos,
The ovulation tests are ideal, especially if you don't have a regular cycle. That way you can still detect your ovulation and time it right, though they do recommend being active on those days too.
It could indeed be too early to test. If I were you, I'd wait a few days (at least 3) and then test again.
I found out through using the ovulation tests that my egg releases at a completely different time than I thought. I use an app to track it, but it's about 5 days off. I'd recommend the tests to everyone. Not that I'm pregnant yet, but I certainly won't be if we're timing it at the wrong time.
My ovulation test was colorless this morning as expected (while the app said I ovulated yesterday), but it's still exciting to see when my egg actually comes. -

Hi ladies!
I totally relate to what you're writing above! I was never really aware of it either, but now you notice it everywhere. Every little twinge, every cramp... it's pretty annoying!
I had it last month, and I think I've never had sore breasts before... but for a whole week this time! It felt so weird. In the end, I got my period. Looking back, I understand that my ovulation must have been then and this can be part of it. On its own, it's a good sign of course... but I'd never had it before... very strange.
Wishing you all lots of success!
@katootjekip, you've been trying for almost a year? That sounds frustrating at times! But I think you're pretty positive, right? -
Tamtam (Tamara) #31
I'll throw in another question..... they always say you can get pregnant about 6 days before ovulation. I assume that varies per couple, right? That there are also couples where it's only 2 days? -
Linda33 #32
You can't get pregnant before your egg is released; that only happens after ovulation. You can, however, have sperm inside you before ovulation, which can still fertilize your egg even if you didn't have sex right around your ovulation window. But 6 days is quite a long time—sperm usually only live for 24 to 48 hours. -
katootjekip #33
Hi Tamtam,
Yeah, we've been at it for a year now. It's such a long time, and I get so upset on the day my period starts. But then I just carry on like it's my first time. I'll stay positive! Hanging out with my boyfriend is really nice (though we were kinda like rabbits recently, it feels different when you're trying to conceive). Getting pregnant is my biggest dream, and to make your dream come true, you should never let yourself get down! On average, it takes a year, so I say bring it on, I'm ready.
Your question about getting pregnant before ovulation is indeed what Linda said. You can't get pregnant before ovulation, but sperm can survive for up to 5 days, so the winning swimmer could be in the sperm from 5 days before your egg is released. It's also best to be active with intercourse before ovulation, as that's better for sperm quality. After ovulation, you can take a break
How long have you two been trying?
Good luck with all the symptoms, the waiting, and everything else that comes with trying to conceive! -
Tamtam (Tamara) #34
Haha yeah okay, I meant it a bit differently than just putting it out there, I guess. I meant that they say sperm can survive for 5 days, but that won't be the case for everyone... which means some people have a higher (number of days) chance of getting pregnant than others.
Think that's indeed the right attitude, katootjekip! Staying positive is always good, but sometimes it seems a bit tough... Hope it works out for you soon!
It just takes longer for some people than for others, but you hear so often around you that it happens quickly! But well, I also know some people who took a bit longer. We'll keep going bravely!
This is my 7th month, and I'm 29. -
katootjekip #35
Umm yeah, I indeed think it's not the same for everyone, not every sperm is of the same quality unfortunately. I also don't know exactly how it works and it's hard to check which ejaculation had the right swimmers
7 months is already quite a while, then I think you know how disappointing it is if it doesn't work out again. Anyway, I even had more trouble in the first months than now. Somehow I believed it wouldn't take very long, precisely because deciding when to start has been a year-long plan. So I was a bit naive
Can you handle it well that it hasn't worked out yet?
Around me it seems like everyone gets pregnant on the first try, that's why I actually started looking online to share my little thing and it does me a lot of good. Although this sounds quite mean, that I feel better because of it, that's not what I mean.
Which part of the month are you in now? -
Jake #36
Hi ladies,
Took a test this morning and, as expected, it was negative. A few hours later, I got some brown, mucus-like discharge... so I think my period is coming.
Anyway, thanks for being such a good listening ear. Wishing you all lots of luck! -
Tamtam (Tamara) #37
Hi ladies
@Katootjekip: I can totally imagine you assuming you'd get pregnant quickly. And then it's a bit of a letdown when that doesn't happen.
I can handle it pretty well. I didn't really have expectations... but secretly you do notice that you kind of expected to be in that 70% who get pregnant within half a year. Heeelaas..... not me! Of course I feel bummed when I get my period again, but I bounce back pretty quickly.
There aren't that many pregnancies in my immediate circle, which helps. But I hear couples say it happens super fast, but I also hear stories of 9 months or even more than a year.
haha I totally get what you mean... it sounds harsh, but it's very human, it's just nice to hear you're not the only one
I'm on day 8 now, so still early in the cycle. I expect ovulation around Oct 15, and will start testing for ovulation again on day 13.
@ Jake: bummer! On to the next round then! -
Tamtam (Tamara) #38
Yes exactly, I also find the OPK tests nice. No, I've only done OPK tests for 1 month, not before. Didn't want to rush into it.
Haha... nice one! Good luck in the coming days!
My cycle has always been 29 days. I started with 3x 29, then 1x 28, then suddenly 34! That was the second to last time. Then I really thought I was pregnant, but it just wouldn't come, so bizarre. But the last time it was neatly 29 again... apparently that can happen too. -
Roosje #39
Well ladies, I got my period today too. On the one hand it's a bummer, but on the other hand I can now face my next period with certainty. It was also just the first real round.
Now a quick question for you all. Is it wise to have sex every other day after my period, or how do you guys do it? I definitely don't want to start using ovulation tests yet because I find that such a hassle... -
kruimel started this #40
Yes, Roos, having sex every other day is the best (it’s tiring and not always fun, but it’s the best option in most cases). That way, you’re always on track, especially when you’re not sure exactly when your egg is released!
