Hi everyone,

Last Monday we became proud parents of a big baby boy. He's doing super well, except he gets very restless in the evenings. He falls asleep after his bottle, but the moment we lay him down, he starts screaming and kicking. He's inconsolable and also spits up. This continues until after his next bottle, then he's less fussy but still spits. He doesn't have this during the day, and spits less then too.

Does anyone have experience with this? We have another son, and he turned out to have hidden reflux, which is why we're worried.

Congratulations! I think it's very normal for babies to have a period where they're restless. It's also quite a lot to be so small.

I'd keep a close eye on it, and if you have any doubts, just go see your GP. But until then, don't worry too much!

Your little boy has been used to falling asleep on you for nine months, so it's no surprise he doesn't like being put in his crib. Also, the valve that closes off the stomach isn't fully developed yet, which means formula can easily come back up. I'd let him sleep on your chest after feeding; it helps the formula settle down for the night, and hopefully, he'll stay calm. All the fussing just makes it more likely for his formula to come back up.

Hey, huge congrats on your little one!
I’m thinking right away of reflux or silent reflux.
We have 3 reflux babies here.
Had to raise the crib so they don’t sleep too flat, and also gave them medication because it burns, you know, with the rising stomach acid.
Maybe try setting the crib in an inclined position and maybe even mention it to the pediatrician?

Our second son is now 3.5 weeks old and doing great. ...went to the pediatrician for the first time today, and they said that in the first few weeks/months babies really need lots of cuddling etc... because from the last 3 months in the womb they hear everything from the parents etc.

At our place, they also immediately said reflux. Until I went to the CB. They gave me some tips and now everything is going great. In the evenings, they often have cramps. Not much you can do except comfort them. At our place, lifting also helps. So baby up and down on your arm. Then they get tired and sleep well. They can also vomit a lot from being overtired.
