    Hi Mandy,

So glad to read that things are slowly getting better for your girl. I can totally believe this has been a very intense, exhausting time. Hopefully, some rest is coming up for all of you now.

Apart from some pretty severe stomach pain, I’ve had a really nice pregnancy. Two weeks ago I spent a night in the hospital because of another knot in my intestines, but thankfully it resolved on its own. I do notice that my whole abdomen is very sensitive, apparently due to all the scar tissue and my weak abdominal wall and muscles. But hey, it’s only for a little while longer, and then I can hold our little miracle in my arms, and the pain will soon be forgotten I’m so excited to see what our girl will look like. The 3D ultrasound already reveals that she looks a lot like her dad

Well, our guts... luckily it's getting better again and the pregnancy is going well.
Good luck with the final stretch.

    Hey hey everyone,
I had a GBS surgery 14 months ago, and I'm probably pregnant. I bought a pregnancy test, and it turned out positive. It's all very exciting because it's my first baby. ????
I'll let you know when I know more.

Last time I replied (in July), unfortunately my pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. Now I'm pregnant again, 6 weeks along. Had an mgpb in Dec '13.
Are there any other pregnant women here? I'm curious about experiences..

    Greetings,
    Karoline

    Hi ladies,

I had a VBAC in 2011 with complications, 2 leaks in my small intestine.
Result: 8 days in ICU in critical condition, 7 days in a regular room & 4 months of heavy rehabilitation.
A year later I had a scar hernia surgery where they stretched a mesh in my abdomen, the size of a large handkerchief. My abdomen is now full of scar tissue, 1 fallopian tube is completely blocked because of that.
Now 5 years later I also got pregnant via IVF, after trying for quite 4 years.
I'm currently 8 months pregnant & due next month.
The gynecologist first suggested delivering via C-section, because of the VBAC with complications since he had a lady 6 years ago who was delivering naturally and because they had been pushing on her belly to help, the VBAC had torn open again and they had to operate on this lady urgently to repair the VBAC again.
Since I was already in critical condition in ICU 5 years ago, I really don't want to end up there again.
Now, last Monday he said again that the baby is in a good position and I could deliver naturally, but they must not help by pushing on my belly.

How was your delivery? Was it a natural birth or a C-section, did they have to push on your belly etc?
I'd like to hear from you because my husband and I find it hard to make a decision.

    Greetings,
    Woodstockske.

Sorry, no experience with it yet, I'm currently 24.3 weeks pregnant, but it sounds like a tricky choice! I understand your anxiety and I'm also really curious to hear other stories.. unfortunately, it's very (too) quiet here..

By the way, there's a Facebook group for people with pregnancy, children, and/or desire for children after gastric bypass. Search for: "Pregnant after (m)gbp"

I barely gained any weight during my pregnancy either. At first, I even lost weight, but I had a healthy baby. Afterward, though, I noticed the pounds just kept piling on. Does anyone else here struggle with this?

    Hi everyone,

I don't know how active this forum is anymore, but it's an interesting topic with not much info out there. Here's my experience so far...

I'm currently 19 weeks pregnant (first pregnancy), and I'm having my 20-week scan next Thursday, so I'm excited!

In 2010, I had gastric bypass surgery. No complications, and all in all (it happened very slowly) I lost 48kg. I'm still overweight, but losing more weight has been and still is quite difficult! I really wanted kids, so I went for it, and I've been PREGNANT for almost a year! From 5 weeks pregnant, I was extremely nauseous and kept vomiting continuously until week 14. No appetite (didn't think I'd ever experience that again, haha), tired, no energy, and I lost 10kg in a short time. After a day in the hospital receiving lots of fluids (I was dehydrated) and switching medication, it slowly got a bit better. This nausea, by the way, didn't seem related to the GBP in my opinion; the gynecologist insisted it was the hormones (which I'm always very sensitive to, by the way). While I was losing weight, I also worried about the baby's growth and development, vitamins/minerals/food, nothing stayed down. At 14 weeks, I had blood drawn, and to my great surprise, EVERYTHING was fine, enough vitamins and reserves. The gynecologist also clearly stated that a 'healthy' body can handle a lot, and the baby will definitely get what it needs. All scans so far have been great, and the baby is growing well. The GP also mentioned that during the war, many 'malnourished' women were pregnant and gave birth to perfectly healthy children, just a bit of reality...

Now, almost 20 weeks pregnant, I've gained some weight again but haven't reached the weight I had before pregnancy. My weight fluctuates, which I also had strongly before pregnancy. My belly is now really starting to grow. I've been to the dietitian several times, but she's not worried either; as long as the baby is growing well and the lab values are good, we shouldn't complain. I've got a bit more appetite now and have to be careful not to give in too much to snacking.

Oh, and by the way... On the advice of Leeuwarden Hospital (where I had the surgery), I need to be under the care of a gynecologist. As far as I know, the reason is the extra checks (including extra lab value checks) and for now, my still high BMI. The gynecologist couldn't think of any other complications or anything.

    Love, Eefje!

Oct 18, 2016 had an IUD. Now I'm almost 10 weeks pregnant. Do the math. It was indeed unplanned because the pill didn't seem to work anymore after the IUD. Does anyone have experience with getting pregnant so soon after the procedure? I've already had an ultrasound, a talk with the doctor, and one with my GP. Next week there's another appointment, and at 12 weeks I'll have another ultrasound.

I got pregnant too... but in our case, it was kind of the opposite of the people here sharing their experiences. My weight and BMI were fine, but my boyfriend was 50 kg overweight and had a gastric sleeve surgery. After losing 30 kg, he turned out to be much healthier and suddenly became fertile again, so I’d also recommend it to anyone with an unhealthy, overweight partner and a desire for kids.

Hi! I had gastric bypass surgery on 23/08/17. I feel so bad, I've lost all 17 kg. But I think I might be pregnant. What could happen to me and the baby? Is that dangerous?
    Best wishes????????

    Congratulations Tia!
Wow, that's really fast after your surgery... Make sure to get medical follow-up just to be safe, because you'll probably need to adjust your diet a bit so your baby doesn't miss out on anything, okay?

    Hi there,

I'm currently 16 weeks pregnant and had a gastric bypass surgery almost 5 years ago. So far, I've only lost weight during this pregnancy. Because of my past surgery, I now need to be under the care of an obstetrician so they can better monitor the baby's growth, and of course, a lot has changed in my body. The question is how things will develop as the baby grows—organs naturally shift, and they want to monitor that closely.

Are you also under the care of an obstetrician? Since you got pregnant shortly after your surgery (that just happens, haha), I was strongly advised against it 5 years ago. Maybe it doesn't matter as much now.

I'd say just wait calmly for the 20-week ultrasound. I've heard that until then, almost all babies grow similarly, and differences in growth only become visible after that point, so before 20 weeks, they probably can't say much anyway.

    Best wishes, Judith.

    Hi everyone,
Had a GBS test in March 2018 and have been pregnant since November 2018. Weight is stable, vitamins are good, and baby's growth is fine too.
Unfortunately, I've been having stomach pain between my navel and chest. Not sure what it is, but I can still eat and drink normally, and go to the toilet. The pain is also decreasing again, so the doctor says there's no reason to panic. I was advised to keep a food diary and try antacids next time I have stomach pain.
I hoped to read more about people with my experience, but that hasn't worked out yet. Pain is never a good sign, right?
    Greetings, Suzanne

    Hi everyone,
This is my second pregnancy after the GBP, and in total I've been pregnant with 6 kids. Unfortunately, 2 of them are my little angels in heaven. I've had 2 births, and I've lost about 39/40 kilos. Less than half a year after the surgery, I got pregnant with a healthy, sweet daughter, which I can definitely say was a hell of a pregnancy. I'm super strong on my own, many people say that too, my pain threshold is very high. It's just that my second daughter has eaten me alive. I had terrible bone pain, pelvic pain, couldn't stand for long or I'd fall, and I'd get super dizzy. I had lost weight, looked like someone on drugs, with a very sunken face, dark circles, vitamins were/are still super low, I'm under care of a specialist for that. The thing is, I also have thrombocytes and chronic anemia, but anyway, what I ultimately want to say is that every pregnancy is different and not the same. My first pregnancy was with a son, went fine until the 8th-9th month with breathing issues, very tight, but I gained more than 32 kilos for my first daughter, it went relatively well with mild pelvic instability, but I have to say I got pregnant again very quickly, within half a year after my son, and I had an emergency C-section for him, and for my daughter, it was a natural birth, which went fine, and those were for my GBP. But my second daughter came after the GBP, it was a very heavy pregnancy, and now I'm pregnant again, but I'm coming on like a beast, eating just like I normally do, drinking only water, room temperature or warm, and occasionally I make my own soda with a SodaStream. I have a feeling this one is a boy. Sorry for my typing, I'm not so good at writing in Dutch.
