Hi lovely people, I have a question. I'm in my first trimester of pregnancy and feel incredibly down, depressed, in the dumps, you name it. I'm naturally very optimistic, but now I can't see anything positive anywhere :-( I know this happens to many people, but I'm starting to think I'm getting depressed. Others mean well, of course, but does anyone else relate to this???

It does sound like a pretty big dip, maybe even depression, which can be caused purely by hormones. That's really tough, and I'd recommend talking to your midwife or OB-GYN as soon as possible to come up with a plan. Women who already have depressive feelings during pregnancy are also at a higher risk of becoming depressed after giving birth. And believe me, you really don't want to go through that... I wish you lots of success and hope you start feeling better soon .

I don't want to be annoying, but pay attention to your emotions as much as you can, of course, because a baby in the womb picks up on every emotion from the mother. If you're sad, your baby becomes sad too; they feel your sadness. The same goes for anger and so on. If you're feeling a bit down or less okay on a certain day, place your hand on your belly and say: "These emotions have nothing to do with you; they belong to your mother. You are welcome; I'm happy about your coming." This might sound a bit woo-woo, but it's worth it. Did you know that amniotic fluid changes taste when you're stressed, sad, or angry? Your baby tastes your mood through the water. Sometimes a woman has a crying baby with no apparent cause, but the reason can be very simple. Without realizing it, you can have a crying baby because your child felt all your stressed or sad emotions in the womb. The same applies to happy feelings; your baby becomes happy when you are happy. I just wanted to share this with you and other mothers. Greetings, Saskia.
