Dear ladies,
Unfortunately, I've been suffering from IBS for almost a year now. I'm currently 8 weeks pregnant, and unfortunately, I can't enjoy my pregnancy. I literally have crying spells every day due to the pain in my intestines. Lots of stress automatically. I can barely handle my intestines, let alone the pregnancy/delivery. This will be my first baby. Does anyone have any tips for me? -

Hi Sara,
I'm 8 weeks pregnant too, and I'm also struggling with PDS. I can't do anything at all. I can't eat or work, and I end up crying a lot. The pain even radiates down to my legs. I've already lost a few kilos. Enjoying my pregnancy is just not happening like this. I've already been to the GP and the gynecologist a few times, but unfortunately, they can't do anything. Now I just hope it gets better after 9 weeks. -

Hey Sara, I'm here too. I already have 2 kids, and with the second one, I started having spasms halfway through the pregnancy. They only found out after the birth that it was spastic bowel. Now I'm pregnant again, 8 weeks along, and for the past 2 weeks I've been in so much pain I can't hold anything down or eat anything because of the cramps—it's really terrible.
I wish you all the best, and don't forget, you're not alone. There are more of us who have this. -

Oh my god! But I'm also a chronic gastrointestinal patient and familiar with IBS, spasms, and constipation. Plus, I have a sensitive stomach, frequent acid reflux, and a poorly functioning lower esophageal sphincter. It's going to get rougher as I progress in my pregnancy! I'm already struggling a lot at 7 weeks, and now at 11 weeks, I've got a bump. -

Hi
I'm 22 weeks pregnant and have had really bad pain since yesterday afternoon. It's a bit better now. I also had pain attacks last night. Every time she kicks, it seems to trigger it...
I sometimes had this issue before pregnancy too, but not for so long...
It's awful.
I can't go to the toilet anymore.
I'm not really eating what I normally eat anymore. I don't know what I ate wrong that caused this... -

Did you eat something bad, Asil? Or do you have a stomach bug? -

If you're really struggling with an irritable bowel, you could try the FODMAP diet for a while. It's available online. The hospital in Groningen is researching the FODMAP diet for irritable bowels in patients. It can really provide relief. -

Good morning ladies.
A bit of a late reply, but I wanted to give a tip too. In my previous pregnancy, I also had trouble going to the toilet. I was then advised to take a small bowl of yogurt in the morning with a tablespoon of flaxseed oil in it. It acts like a lubricant for your stool. It worked well for me.

I'm 6 weeks pregnant now and have had much less IBS trouble in recent years. Now I'm suffering a lot again. I also constantly think something's wrong because I suddenly get these stomach cramps, shaking, breaking out in sweat... But since it always means I need to poop, I think it's due to the IBS. I'm not enjoying this pregnancy either... Hopefully it gets better... -

I think eating lactose-free for just one day probably won't have much impact on your symptoms; it takes longer for that to clear from your system.
There are also psyllium fibers for these issues, but you'd need to check if it's safe to use during pregnancy. -

I had the same issue during the first 3 months of my pregnancy... it was very painful and made me really scared. But by the second trimester, it was completely gone.
It was also due to the hormones for me. -

Hi everyone,
I was also diagnosed with SIBO a few years back, and later on, I was diagnosed with PDS. I took medication for it, and since then, along with a specific gluten-free diet, things have been better. Now, there's a possibility that I'm pregnant (I still need to test, but if I am, I'd just barely be at week 4 now). However, I've suddenly had severe heartburn, nausea, a very bloated stomach, and a lot of pain, including occasional sharp stabs in the upper right side, as well as normal intestinal cramps and mild menstrual-like cramps. I also have to pee constantly, and my bowel movements switch from constipation to diarrhea (mostly the latter). It feels strange that I'm having so much trouble again so suddenly, especially since things have been better for years, and definitely recently, and I just had a relaxing vacation. Could this possibly be due to pregnancy? Do you also recognize that stabbing pain in the upper abdomen? I think I might go to the doctor tomorrow if it continues like this...
