Ugh, another C-section?

Hi ladies,

I just found out that my second baby also has to be born via C-section. With the birth of my first son, we had a planned C-section because he wasn't in the right position.

Now the gynecologist says the second one also has to be born via C-section because the scar might tear otherwise. But I really don't want that. I don't want to go through that mess with a C-section again. No one ever told me during the birth of our first that a natural birth wouldn't be possible for the second.

Does anyone have experience with this here? Could this be due to this specific gynecologist, and should I ask for a second opinion, or would they all say the same thing?

Love, Isa

    Hi Isa,

I got the exact same feedback when my son was born. My daughter was born via C-section because she was breech, but with my second pregnancy the baby was in the right position, yet I was still advised to go for a C-section again.

The first reason was indeed the risk of the scar tearing, and the second was that I had severe pelvic instability, which could also cause problems during a natural birth.

In the end, my son was even delivered a week earlier than planned via C-section. After the operation, the gynecologist told me they had made the right decision (both by having him come earlier and by opting for the C-section) because there was only a very thin membrane left at the scar site. If I had waited just one more week, the risk of tearing would have been very real.

When I first heard that I’d be having another C-section, I was deeply disappointed (and honestly, I still think it’s a shame), but ultimately it’s all about the safety and health of the baby, so I accepted it. The C-section went perfectly, and afterwards I didn’t really have much trouble with it. All’s well that ends well.

It certainly can’t hurt to get a second opinion, but I don’t think a gynecologist would recommend a C-section just for fun.

I hope my story helped you a bit.

    Best,

    Sandra

    Hi Isa,

I also had my first baby via C-section. The labor didn't go as planned. But today I was simply told that I can give birth naturally. So, I'll ask about it again at my next appointment, now that I've read your messages.

    Hi Uk,

Honestly, I also thought I’d be allowed to go into labor naturally. Of course, I don’t want to push it to the edge, but this is quite a letdown.

I think I’ll go ahead and get a second opinion anyway, since I’ve been hearing quite different stories. Some say yes, others say no.

It just feels weird to me.

    Hi Isa,

Sounds like a good plan. I'll ask about it too. I don't want to take any risks. Had enough risks with the previous birth.

    Hi Isa,

I also had a C-section for my first birth due to breech position. I'm now pregnant with my third child, and the gynecologist just assumed I'd have a vaginal birth for #2 and #3. I was told that uterine rupture is extremely rare. You just need to give birth in a hospital.
