Hi there.

I'm Kayltje, 19 years old, and I've had some really crazy experiences here, but I'm getting a bit worried myself.

For the past few days, I've been experiencing all sorts of weird symptoms:
Fatigue
Headaches
Mood swings
Heartburn
(Not nauseous)
Occasional stomach pain
Strong-smelling urine
Sensitive breasts
And occasional lower abdominal cramps

I'm actually quite scared to take a test because I'm 19 and I wouldn't know what to do if I found out.

But now...

I've had light bleeding for a few weeks. Once it was dark brown/red, and since this afternoon it's been light pinkish-red but with a lot of mucus.

I'm not sure anymore.
The only thing I feel right now is nerves, nerves, nerves.

Do you guys maybe know what all this could be?

I hope you can help me out.

Best, Kayltje

    Hi Kayltje,

no matter how scary it might be, the only way to know for sure is to take a test.

    Best wishes

I get that it feels a bit scary if you're not ready to be pregnant yet. But burying your head in the sand isn't the solution either. So take a test. If you're not pregnant, go see your GP and explain your physical symptoms. If you are pregnant, ask for an appointment with a social worker to sort things out. An independent person can help you get your thoughts in order. Good luck!

I had sore breasts and period-like feelings in the first weeks of pregnancy, and nausea started at week 6. I personally had some bleeding a few times. This can have many causes, for example: being on your period, a highly blood-supplied cervix due to pregnancy that can bleed suddenly, or bleeding after sex. But to make sure you're pregnant, I'd take a test. Otherwise, you'll just keep worrying about it...

And of course it's scary; anxiety can be a strong and overwhelming feeling, but you'll get through it. A social worker is indeed a nice option who can offer you support and help; you can request this through your school mentor or via your GP. Good luck!

    Thanks for your replies.

I took a test and I'm indeed pregnant, but I was really shocked. I'm already at 8 weeks, so I called the doctor right away.

I'm going to think about how to explain this to my parents and my boyfriend.

    Thanks everyone, x

Hey Kayltje, congratulations on your pregnancy

Good that you got tested. You can indeed call your GP or midwife right away.
They recommend taking folic acid before and during pregnancy, but you'll probably hear that from the doctor too. Good luck with telling your parents and partner!
It's all very scary/exciting, that was us too, and I'm still young too. Feel free to ask questions or tips anytime. x

I had the same thing, I was 19 and it turned out I was already 10 weeks pregnant. I was pretty scared too. It all worked out in the end
I also had bleeding, and I didn't know at first what was causing it.

I think this might help you. Good luck, I know how it feels, I was so scared back then about what my parents would say!
