Are there any moms who are going to breastfeed or bottle feed and why did you choose that?

I'm breastfeeding. Much better for the baby, and it's nice too. You get to know your baby so much better.

I don't know yet. To be honest, I want to start giving a bottle but I'm really hesitating right now.

So I'm very curious what the other ladies think :-)

Good choice! Babies and breastmilk are made for each other. Your body and your baby's body are tuned in to making, giving, and receiving milk. Breastfeeding is therefore the perfect way to provide your child with the nourishment and security they need. Your body naturally prepares itself for the arrival of your baby. That's why breastfeeding is the best for your baby and for yourself. I've always breastfed both of my children myself, and this time I'm going to breastfeed again too.

I'll give you a tip! Breastfeed your baby because it's the best for the baby in every way. With breast milk, your baby grows best. Breastfed children have optimal brain development and in the long run, you see less overweight. Hope you find this helpful :-)

We chose breastfeeding for both our boys. In our opinion, you give them everything they need, and they also get your immunity during the breastfeeding period. I recently saw a list of all the 'ingredients' in breast milk and formula, and you really see that breast milk offers much more.
It also seems that babies who are breastfed are easier eaters (because they're already used to different flavors) and even score 4 IQ points higher than kids who were formula-fed.

Wishing everyone a very happy and healthy 2012! Did you have a cozy New Year's Eve? I did, nice with friends, family and in-laws. Deliciously gourmeted and no nausea or vomiting. What a relief:-)

Breastfeeding!! Lovely intimate moments just for you and your baby. Good for bonding and security. I breastfed my oldest until 9 months and my second is already almost 4 now, so I'm not planning to stop anytime soon.
If you're unsure, you can always easily combine breastfeeding with bottle feeding in the long run.

Breastfeeding and why? With my first baby, my midwife convinced me that if you're unsure between breastfeeding and bottle-feeding, it's best to try breastfeeding. You can always switch to bottle-feeding later, but with breastfeeding, you have to start with it. I'm so glad she took the time to explain this to me. Believe me, it's the most beautiful thing. Feeding your own baby with your own milk. I find it amazing that my body can do all this and that my baby is growing so well, and I love having him drink from me. It's a nice moment for just the two of us. I already have a daughter, and now a son who's almost 4 months old. I know this feeling won't last forever because the first year goes by so fast. So I'm enjoying every single minute I can feed him.

I always thought I’d go for bottle feeding, but a few weeks ago my mother-in-law talked to me about breastfeeding, and I promised her I’d look into it more. I also spoke with my midwife, and now I’m definitely going for breastfeeding. As Chantal said, you can always switch to bottle feeding later on.

I'm also going for breastfeeding... My midwife really encourages it because it's just so good for your baby, and it seems like a beautiful way to build a bond with your little one! Love, Melissa

We're going for breastfeeding as aunt.. I've always said even before we were pregnant that I wanted to do this if we have a child. And now that our little one is almost here, I'm still sure about my feeling to give breastfeeding.. Not only for all the nutrients and antibodies and such that she gets from it, but also for the bond.. You've carried them for 9 months and then suddenly you have to share with everyone.. And through breastfeeding, you still have those little moments just between us where she's really only yours at that moment...

Sorry, but I don't quite agree here.. I give Lennon formula, so according to you, I'm not doing the best for him?? Formula is just as healthy as breast milk nowadays. With my first son I tried breastfeeding, but it just didn't work at all. Not enough nutrients, the baby was always hungry. I was busy with him 24/7, 1 hour feeding, 1 hour sleeping.. that breaks you after 3 weeks! This time (and any future times) I consciously chose not to do it. And bonding with your child works perfectly with the bottle!! Long live formula feeding!

@annarebecca of course you also want the best for your baby! It's a choice for everyone, right? And I'd like to try breastfeeding first, but if it doesn't work out for me, I'll switch to bottle feeding too. It's a choice everyone has to make themselves, and whatever you choose doesn't make you a lesser mother... That wasn't my intention, nor I think the other girls'.

I get that too!! But sometimes you just get a bit tired. When you give bf, some people look at you like you're not right in the head! Everyone just assumes you're going to breastfeed.

    Hi annarebecca,

As Melis already said... it's not because you give formula that you're a bad mom, not at all! You noticed that BF wasn't going well and you just want the best for your baby's nutrition. How can you do that better than by giving formula if, for example, it doesn't contain everything needed? I'd also like to try it, as you've read... if this doesn't work out, I'll switch to formula too... and indeed, giving formula doesn't mean you can't bond with your little one!! That works perfectly too...

Only with BF, no one can help, of course, and if you have a real issue with formula, your husband can take over if needed, which is also easy if things are busy... I think it'll have pros and cons for both!

But you're really not a bad mom because you give formula. You just had a bad experience with BF and it's understandable that after 3 weeks it's really tough! It takes a lot from mom too, and if you don't have enough food in your milk, there's nothing you can do, so you can't blame yourself. You did try with your first.

And nothing is as good as formula; otherwise, they wouldn't have put it on the market if it were less valuable compared to BF.

I'm also going to bottle feed. I've tried it twice! Both daughters, really did everything I could think of. I'm glad I switched to bottles back then. Now I'm just going straight to bottle feeding. You really do get that bond with bottle feeding, just like with breastfeeding. The nice thing is that dad and the sisters can also give a bottle. Let's be honest, dads already have so little time in the first few weeks because the babies sleep so much, and by letting them give a bottle (which they don't get to do with breastfeeding), they also get their own intimate moments with their newborn.

I'm also going for bottle feeding! I think it's really important that dad also gets a bond with the baby. I'll have all the time to bond, and dad has to go back to work after a few days.
And regarding whether breast milk is the best, I don't agree. If that were really true, there wouldn't be so much bottle feeding around...

I wanted to try BV again, but after pumping for 2 days I was done with it (I hoped to endure and process it during and after the birth). It drove me crazy and I decided to stop.
I had to laugh secretly though, there were a few nurses who softly told me it wouldn't hurt to go for FV, their kids grew up fine with it too! That's because zh is naturally pro-BV and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

The most important thing is that you as a mother should feel good about it. I felt a bit guilty for giving up so quickly, but now I'm really happy with my decision. Dad can also give a bottle and the other kids can too. And a baby doesn't benefit from a mom who doesn't feel comfortable.

Yeah, try breastfeeding and if it doesn't work, use a bottle!
With the first one, my daughter couldn't latch properly due to neck problems, oh what a feeling of powerlessness, I tried pumping! It was terrible! Switched to bottle feeding.

My dear son went straight to the bottle, because I didn't want to go through that hassle and powerlessness again. But I kept pumping and showering, oh what a hassle!!
Then I tried latching him on and it worked perfectly, unfortunately he was already used to the bottle, so I did alternating for 3 weeks and then just bottle.
The bond doesn't change with a bottle either. I even fell asleep while bottle feeding (or my husband) and that connection you feel is really no different!

I'm now pregnant with number 3 and yes, I'm going for breastfeeding now and if it doesn't work, I'll just give him a bottle.
Gather your info and be prepared! Your love and bond won't be any less because of it!
