Hungry and greedy baby

Hi! I have a little boy who is now 3 weeks old. He’s very hungry and drinks very greedily. After feeding, he often gets hiccups or milk runs out of his mouth. He’s very restless, nips at my cheeks and his hands, and constantly searches for more. I give him store-brand formula from De Kalmthorst in an Avent bottle with a size 1 teat. He still finishes his bottle way too quickly and sometimes has tummy cramps. I try to pause after every 30ml to let him rest, but then he starts searching, crying, and screaming, feeling like the teat isn’t good enough. Even burping halfway through doesn’t help much because he keeps searching. He’s now getting 100ml, which is the maximum he’s allowed. Do people sometimes add rice flour to the bottle? Or does anyone have good tips or experience? Thanks in advance!

Maybe he doesn't react well to the store brand from Dekamarkt. You say milk is leaking out of his mouth, so how much is he actually getting?
Try to get his attention while drinking. Chat with him or go sing songs. Usually, they calm down then. He definitely shouldn't have a larger teat. As difficult as it may be, keep pausing to burp him. Drinking too fast actually gives them cramps.
Wishing you lots of success and hoping he drinks more calmly soon.

It doesn't always work, but sometimes burping at the end or after hiccups helps. He's such a grump, which brand would be good for that? I already talk or sing to him during or after his bottle to help him fall asleep. I try the pauses too, but then he gets very upset and quiet when he's crying from hunger.

Try putting the nipple on double and then holding it upside down and putting it in his mouth.
Of course, it won’t stay double like that and that’s not necessary either, but then he’ll create some vacuum, which makes the little one work harder and drink less quickly. As a result, the food can be absorbed a bit better.

Nutrilon is a good brand, but you do pay more for it compared to store brands. And maybe your baby just needs formula because they're hungry. Yeah, then it's indeed tricky to take a break. Otherwise, just let him keep drinking until he calms down, and then try to burp him. My daughter always finished her bottle in 10 minutes without burping in between.

We had this with our son too. He switched to Difrax bottles (on the advice of the CB) because he emptied the Avent bottle in 5 minutes, and a baby should take at least 10 to 15 minutes to finish a bottle. The Difrax bottle (with an S teat) releases the milk more slowly, so they take longer and are more satisfied. It might also satisfy their sucking needs more. Maybe this will help! And does he have a pacifier? It could also be that it's a sucking need rather than actual hunger.

Totally agree, Avent bottles aren't great. I'll try Dr. Brown's bottles and Friso (Hero) is almost the same price. Otherwise, I'll call CB for formula for hungry babies.

Our 3-week-old baby also really loves eating. Now 120-150 ml every 3-4 hours. Already at 1 week, 90 ml. Which is officially 30 ml too much. Asked different people including the doctor and the consultation bureau. “Just give him what he wants.” Thank goodness because now our baby is happy.

I'm also a big fan of the Dr. Brown's bottle.
