How do you recognize a miscarriage?

Hi...
Six weeks along but I've already had two days of light bleeding. It started yesterday with very watery light blood. Today it looks like old brownish... (sorry). With my second child, I only had this once, just one toilet visit. I'm going crazy over it. Luckily, on June 7th I'll have my first ultrasound because of our medical history.

you can tell by the fact that the symptoms disappeared. i hadn't had any bleeding or cramps, my nausea was suddenly gone, and i wasn't so tired anymore. a week and a half later, it turned out on the ultrasound that around that time the heartbeat had stopped.

but i had a strange feeling from the very beginning. i didn't feel like shouting it from the rooftops.

that apparently doesn't always mean it: I had exactly the same thing and we had an emergency ultrasound because I also had bleeding (also as you described but more short-lived) but everything was fine with me. I've been quite worried since then... the first thing they asked me when I was at the doctor was if I had cramps: apparently that can also be a sign.

    Hi Wondertje,

Unfortunately, there isn't a clear answer here. With some, the symptoms decrease and it turns out weeks later that the baby has been gone for a while. If it really detaches, you'll start bleeding and get cramps. But it's not always obvious right away if your baby has stopped growing.

We're in the same boat. I'm five weeks and two days pregnant. I hardly have any symptoms anymore and had bleeding yesterday. It feels like a miscarriage to me, so we're waiting to see. It's sad, because we also had a miscarriage in the 11th week back in November.

    Best, Wens

    hey girls,

well, we've also lost some blood, first it was rose-colored, watery, I think 6 drops, and when wiping (no clots and no cramps).
The next morning it was dark brown, in the afternoon very black blood. Now it's stopped for 2 days.. I still have a lot of discomfort when I press on my breasts and can't sleep on my breasts. I also already had few symptoms at the beginning.. so yes, for me it's completely uncertain..
I have an ultrasound on the 15th and the tests still give positive in the evening.. and my temp is still high at 37 degrees.. I don't understand anything anymore, the doctor says it's not a miscarriage, another person thinks it is, and I really don't know anymore.. I do have a lot of cramps now for the last 2 days and stabbing and pulling sensations in my groin down my leg.. I'm not losing any more blood..

That can all be completely normal, really. It’s different for everyone, which is why it’s all so unpredictable. If you still see any blood, I’d ask the doctor to really do an ultrasound. Mine did that automatically. I had lost quite a bit of blood at once (it was red too), luckily it turned out to be nothing, but they did check it out anyway—they felt it was safer that way...
