Forum 2nd trimester

always a bit unsure

LBink
I have to go to the UK again tomorrow and I always get a bit emotional and unsure during those days. I'm 17 weeks and still don't really feel my baby. Yesterday it suddenly became too much for me when we were setting up the room. Does anyone else experience this?

Love, Lotte

    Hi Lbink,

I had that too, you know.
As long as I couldn't feel my baby, I got incredibly insecure in the days leading up to an appointment, scared that something might be wrong.

It's normal not to feel your baby at 17 weeks.
Most people don't feel it until around 20 weeks, and even then it depends on how everything is positioned in your belly.

Once you start feeling your baby, the insecurity should ease up a bit.

Though there will always be moments of doubt left.
    Seems totally normal to me.

Emotional ups and downs are just part of it too!
Just let them wash over you and don't suppress them too much, I'd say.

    Cheers

A lot has gone on before we got pregnant, so don't think it's weird. After asking around, I did feel my baby clearly once, but if I'm not in a completely quiet space, I can't concentrate well, so I often don't feel it. I'm not really bothered by that, but I do have this idea of "oh no, what if we get bad news soon."

I totally get it, I felt the same until you start feeling your baby clearly. Once that moment comes, you just feel more at ease knowing everything is okay.
But until then, it seems normal to me that you're always a bit worried before going for a check-up...

    Hi Lotte,

I totally get that feeling... I have my 20-week scan coming up next Friday, and since last week I’ve suddenly become super unsure again... What if they find something wrong... I had this same feeling a week before my 16-week scan too. You’re never really sure, after all. And if you do start feeling your baby for real, it’s like a kind of reassurance, but I can tell you, at my 20 weeks, I think I felt something for the first time last weekend. So chin up, try to stay positive... And tomorrow you’ll know more!

LBink, what you're saying sounds so familiar to me. Until the day I started feeling our baby every day, I was also really restless for a few days whenever I had to go to the UK. What a relief when you hear the heartbeat again, super nice and strong. Luckily, I could feel the baby every day quite quickly, and then the anxiety really gets better, I promise!! Then you can also go to the UK with a peaceful heart because you know your baby is still moving.

what you said is all true, I feel our baby every day now and I have to go to the UK this afternoon, which makes me feel a bit less stressed I guess, but there's always that little moment... I have a huge busybody in my belly who regularly reminds me that it's still there.

Aaah, that's so nice for you that you're feeling a bit more relaxed now
