When to start weaning?

Yesss, of course that feels so special... I'd definitely do it after the 20-week scan anyway, then you're sure everything's fine.
With our first, we did it from week 25, because setting up the baby's room could take 8 weeks and, as you say, you also get a lot!!

Yes, I'll feel a lot more relaxed after that 20-week scan! And then, indeed, start slowly. I'm already spending almost every evening online looking at strollers, cribs, you name it... But my Belgian family expects me to make a list at a specific store... that's the custom in Belgium. So I guess I won't buy too much, hehe... I'm going crazy, there's SO MUCH!

There's indeed a super huge selection, and they know exactly what to ask for!
It's probably different in other countries. In the Netherlands, if you don't have everything ready at least 3 months before the baby arrives, people think you're not right in the head. I just kind of cobbled together a baby room in Ireland, since we won't be there until after June but will be back when the baby arrives. Now my boyfriend's whole family thinks I'm crazy...! A baby room? You only do that 6 months after birth!

I had convinced myself beforehand that I definitely wouldn't buy anything before 12 weeks.

In the end, I couldn't hold out at all and started buying little things (a onesie, changing pad covers, a changing pad...) around 10 weeks, totally tempted by all the sales

Big items, like the room and the crib, I only bought after 25 weeks.

haha.. glad to hear I'm not abnormal
Really strange how it varies so much in different countries, right? But if you're indeed coming here, you'd better be prepared!
And Aoeth... what an idea! I completely forgot that the allowances would be coming in... I'd better wait until July indeed. Because you'd be losing me a lot of money.. goodness!
Amai... I'll just go with a fixed amount then haha, otherwise my soon-to-be dad at home won't be happy, I think. He thinks everything is a waste of money hihi

Hihi yeah, I'll have that too.
I still have about 4 weeks left in my pregnancy.

So I'll be on vacation during the school holidays.
And who knows, I might still have nesting instincts.

    So it won't be easy.

But I'm lucky that I have 2 school holidays during my pregnancy

Amai... that's quite ideal... but not for your wallet... oh well, you can buy more for the same money, right... that's how I always sell it at home

We’ve got some stuff from the old kids’ room, so there’s a bit of nostalgia. The rest we already ordered after the 12-week scan. But it won’t be delivered until August. Also got some deals. It all costs so much money, hihihi. So basically, we’ve got all the stuff together. I’ve already received lots of baby clothes, and I’ll slowly start buying the rest around 20 weeks. Then just happily browsing and shopping, hihihi.

Actually quite relaxed, huh! I also want to get started soon, really. It's fine if it's okay, and then you'll have fewer worries again. I've had restless nights for weeks.. I go downstairs at 4 AM, looking at baby stuff online. Maybe that's why I'm so restless.. it could be a good excuse, right?
  9. dammie #10

Hihihi that can happen. I also had something like, "it's arranged, so it's done." And if it goes wrong, we can cancel everything for free. You don't really want to think about that. But it does give you peace of mind. And I'm glad we've already ordered the big things. Now we can nicely relax and do some DIY and also do fun things together.

We started at week 30... very late. I did get some free stuff from our midwife in between, but for me it really only started when I went on maternity leave. Then I went to Hema every day... ooo! I spent so much money on useless things, and in practice it turned out we were still missing a lot of things . I think the further along you are in your pregnancy, the more vulnerable you become to nesting instinct and all kinds of purchases.
That's how it goes with the first child :/

If you want to know what I bought that I didn't really need or what we missed, I've written it down in a baby set post.

If I could do it over, I would buy things slowly and "spread" the costs over the pregnancy. Besides, it's incredibly nice to fold baby clothes... and then iron them again and fold them again
  11. dammie #12

I wanted to spread it out consciously throughout the pregnancy. It all costs money, pfff. But then I suddenly start buying other things too, things we normally always forgot to buy, hehe, like new teacups, a teapot, a bread knife, etc... we needed some new things anyway, and now I'm just buying it all, hehehe. I worked in maternity care for a while, so I luckily know what we really need and what we don't... but we'll probably forget some things too... haha, normal hehehe.

We’ve already gotten quite a bit, but I said I’d buy the other stuff once we’ve had the 20-week scan.
We’ve also received a lot from family and friends.
Our 20-week scan is on June 11th at 4:15 PM.
At first, I really had the feeling we’d be having a girl, but from week 11 onwards, I started getting the feeling it’s a boy.
We both think, as long as it’s healthy, that’s what matters most.
  13. Liesbeth #14

I’ve started cautiously with babygrows... Still so adorable, those little items. Not buying other clothes though, since they’re all summer stuff anyway. I’m really surprised that there’s on average twice as much stuff for girls as for boys!

I’m really struggling with what to do about the stroller... New or second-hand? Not that we can’t afford it, but I think it’s so expensive... Anyone have experience with whether the frame also wears out after about 2 years?
