how often is the ultrasound?

Hi,
I'm exactly 8 weeks pregnant now and have already had 3 ultrasounds.
The first one was at 4.6 weeks to confirm that I was pregnant.
The second one was at 5.6 weeks to check if there was anything in the gestational sac.
Yesterday (7.6) I had another one.
And on May 29th, I'm getting another one.
It's for a check-up because I had bleeding yesterday and today.
Everything looked normal on the ultrasound, so I don't need to worry too much.
But are there more people who get this many ultrasounds?

Yes, we're here too, but only because I have PCOS!!
And blood loss is actually normal, by the way.. I had that too in the beginning!!!

    S6 continues!!

I had an ultrasound at 5 weeks to confirm I was pregnant, at 8 weeks to check how far along I was, and then at 12 weeks. Now I have the 20-week scan in 20 weeks, and my midwife said I’ll also get one at 30 weeks. Even though I don’t have any other complaints or issues...

A friend of mine only had ultrasounds at 12 and 20 weeks throughout her entire pregnancy. I guess it just varies depending on the midwife...

I’d enjoy having extra chances to see your baby

Normally you get the dating scan between 10 and 12 weeks.
    Around 20 weeks there's a medical scan.
And often they do another growth scan at 30 weeks, but not all practices do this scan..

If you have/had more scans, there's a medical reason for it.

    That's correct indeed!!

    Hi ladies,

I read that some of you are getting a lot of ultrasounds or have already had them!
Is this through the hospital or through a private midwife?

    Greetings, Bibi

I’ve also had multiple ultrasounds, but indeed for medical reasons. These were done at the hospital. If there’s no medical reason, you get an anomaly scan around 12 weeks. If you choose to have an ultrasound for the nuchal translucency measurement around 12 weeks, that’s not covered. The medical ultrasound at 20 weeks is covered, and at some clinics, there’s also a growth scan around 30 weeks. Additionally, you can opt for extra ultrasounds if you want, but those aren’t covered either. Greetings!

I’ve had several too, but without medical reason, just with a midwife, not in the hospital... So I think it varies per midwife. With the 20 and 30-week scans already counted in, I’ve had 5 scans in total..

Yeah, that's true too. I just remembered I had two dating scans at my GP too, but that was because the one at the GP differed from the one at the hospital. So it probably does vary per GP, but it's also not fair to those who have a GP who doesn't do many scans

That does happen in the hospital if you have a medical reason.
I'm getting 2 extra ultrasounds with the 20 wk scan, the 6th plus one you get for that, and with my 1st I had about 9 in total!!

I had extra ultrasounds at my OB-GYN..
For my son because he was growing so fast and because we were getting ready towards the end, and now because I had a miscarriage in the past.

    Hi ladies,
Thanks for your responses! I'll quickly check what's covered for my ultrasounds... otherwise it'll get pricey, but we're willing to pay for it, of course!

The fun echoes and combination tests aren't covered if your midwife gives you extra ultrasounds for medical reasons, and those are just covered.

    Hey,
by the way, I have to say that I’m with a gynecologist at the ZKH in Belgium.
But honestly, that shouldn’t make much of a difference.
Because my sister didn’t get that many either.
And she lives in Belgium too.
But I think next week might be one of the last ones for now.
