When to go to the midwife for the first time

I don't really get it anymore. You read all sorts of different information.

Do you have to go to the GP first when you're pregnant, or can you go straight to the midwife? I'd rather not go to the GP because I don't find that man very nice.

How did you handle it?

Thanks, Caatje

Hi hi, you don't need to see your GP anymore if you're just pregnant. Unless you have complaints like a bladder infection or something. And if you're already taking medication, you can just discuss with the assistant that you're pregnant and then they'll consult with the GP. So just go ahead and make an appointment with the midwife!

You can call the midwife you'd like for your pregnancy right away
It's also a good idea to call your GP and let them know you're pregnant, especially since you're taking medication now and throughout the pregnancy!

First, you usually make an appointment with your GP. They’ll then refer you to a midwife (or to an OB-GYN if there’s a reason). You can also book directly with a midwife, but you do need to let your GP know you’re pregnant. Maybe it’s a good idea to switch GPs, since you’ll be taking your baby there later on too.

    Best, Louise

    Congratulations on your pregnancy!!
You can indeed call your midwife right away. Unless you have a general practitioner who also handles deliveries (which sometimes still happens in smaller villages).

My midwife always gave me a pregnancy declaration in duplicate—one to hand in to my GP and one for my employer.

I see now that my reply is coming way too late... lol
