Pregnant again after a miscarriage

Hi loishimpe! Congrats on your pregnancy! I totally get how you feel, I went through it too right before this pregnancy. About a month and a half before this one, I had a BBT (baby-to-be), which thankfully ended in a miscarriage. I lost all confidence in my body. So I really didn't enjoy the first 9 weeks at all. After that, I could let go a bit more, but I still felt very unsure. So scared that something wouldn't go right. Even now, I still have moments of insecurity, but I can enjoy it now. Your value matches what I had, if I remember correctly, it was around 285 with less than 5 weeks. These will be exciting and uncertain weeks for you, but you'll gain more and more confidence. People often told me to stop worrying and that I was overthinking. Now I sometimes think, I wish I had listened to them, but it doesn't work like that. So don't let it get to you! Talk about it with people who understand. I hope you'll soon have a nice ultrasound and that you'll quickly manage to enjoy your beautiful miracle! Love,

    Hi Lois,

No worries, I completely understand. I’ve also had a D&C myself and I’m pregnant again now. I can’t help it, but I’m constantly worried too.

When my partner and I decided last year to stop the pill, it kicked off a stressful period. But lo and behold, I was pregnant after just 3 months. Everything seemed to be going well, but when I went to my first ultrasound (at 10 weeks), it turned out the heartbeat had stopped. It had actually stopped at 8 weeks and 4 days. Since the baby wasn’t going to leave my body naturally, they ended up performing a D&C on me as well.

Four months later, I found out I was pregnant again. Yay! But I have to say, I feel really insecure and anxious this time. Everyone tells me that the previous miscarriage doesn’t necessarily mean anything and that it’s highly likely everything will be fine now, but I just can’t stop worrying. Especially since I had a small bleed again 4 weeks ago, though luckily it stopped pretty quickly. Last week, I had my 10-week ultrasound again, and guess what? A healthy, beating heart. The midwife told me that the chances of something going wrong now have decreased significantly, and that we can now enjoy the pregnancy with a clear conscience. And yet, I still don’t feel at ease. In 2 weeks, I have another ultrasound and a combined screening test, and I hope that, if the results are good, I can finally enjoy things a bit more carefree.

So Lois, I totally feel for you. I think we’re both really afraid of another disappointment, which is why we can’t fully enjoy it yet. As for those values, I wouldn’t know. You just have to face the results of the blood test again. They could be disappointing, but they could also reassure you partially. Good luck anyway!

    Hey everyone,

Yesterday I finally gathered enough courage to get my blood drawn again.
Since I could only go in the afternoon, I wasn't allowed to call for the results until this morning. So I had quite a restless night. At 8:30, I called with a very small heart. When I asked for the results, the first thing she said was: "oops." I felt the ground fall beneath me, but it turned out she meant "oops" because the computer program wouldn't open. I had a scare of my life, but when she finally managed to view my results, she said: the hcg level is 2255 and progesterone is 27.
So everything looks great! I was overjoyed, but the euphoria is now starting to give way to some uncertainty because now I'm so anxious about the ultrasound next Thursday. I thought I'd feel relieved with these results, but as you all say, that fear is really well embedded. I'm already happy that you could give me a little courage and that you can understand my concerns. A big thank you for that. Loloa, I'll also cross my fingers with you that everything continues to go well.
    Thanks for the replies!

    I'll keep you updated anyway.

    Best,

I had surgery on January 27th for a miscarriage.
    It was a tough time.
Now, unexpectedly, I'm already 6 weeks pregnant.
    Counted out on 1-1-2014.

Hi Jessica, congratulations on your pregnancy! Your body has picked everything up again so smoothly. Have you had confirmation that this time it’s in the right place? They probably also checked your other fallopian tube during the surgery last time. It’s exciting, but enjoy it!

    Hi everyone,

At the end of October, we found out at the dating scan that the heartbeat had stopped at 8 weeks. A week later, at 11 weeks, there was still no cramping or bleeding, so we decided to induce the miscarriage. That night, we lost our little one. I was so devastated by all of this that we put trying to conceive on the back burner.. In March, we decided to go for it 100% again, which resulted in a positive test in early April..

But oh, how scared we were! We had our first scan at 8 weeks and, thankfully, saw a beating heart, and even got 5 extra days as a bonus.. Yesterday we had our second scan, and again, a super active and lively baby! The fear of losing the baby is now almost completely gone since I'm 10 weeks and 3 days and have had my beautiful scan.

    Hi hi,

Same here, I was induced on December 4th because my miscarriage didn't start on its own.
I'm pregnant again now, four weeks and a bit. This will be a test in positive thinking!

Hi! I had a miscarriage too and got D&C'd on December 6th. I'm now over 7 weeks pregnant, and we're having our first ultrasound on Monday: so exciting!!

Hi Wens1985 and Loninlove. Wishing you lots of strength during this exciting time. Stay positive, because what happens doesn't say anything about this pregnancy, and it's a shame if you can't enjoy it.
I'm now 28 weeks pregnant myself and everything's going well. I only started feeling a bit more relaxed after the 13-week scan, and by the 20-week scan, the anxiety was completely gone.

    Good luck!

Hi everyone, I also know what you've been through and how you feel about a new pregnancy. First pregnancy without any problems, second pregnancy lost at 10 weeks, third pregnancy lost at 12 weeks with a curettage, and fourth pregnancy lost at 11 weeks, each time no heartbeat seen on the ultrasound and before that no signs of bleeding or anything. Now I'm pregnant and due on January 4, 2014, with a lot of fear! Good luck everyone, greetings.

I’ve had two empty gestational sacs this past year. In both pregnancies, I also lost brown blood. The first time, I had a miscarriage after medication. The second time, the medication didn’t work well enough, and I ended up getting an emergency D&C. I waited for the results of a chromosomal test before we tried to conceive again.

Now I’m 6 weeks pregnant, and my first ultrasound is in 1.5 weeks. I’m extremely worried, and it’s hard to concentrate at work. On one hand, I feel like I should trust that everything will be okay. On the other hand, I almost want to brace myself for another disappointment.

Who has had a normal pregnancy after two miscarriages?

Good luck to everyone, and best wishes.
  11. anne greet janssens #12

    Hi, congratulations in advance!
I completely understand your fear. I'm pregnant now after 3 miscarriages, already 19 weeks along, and those 19 weeks have been hell with lots of anxiety.
    Good luck!

    hey ladies.
i had been to the gynecologist in april, because normally i should have been 10 weeks pregnant. but on the ultrasound they could see that the heart had stopped beating at 8 weeks. i waited 1 week before having the D&C. i hoped it would come on its own, but it didn't. i found it really hard, because i was still nauseous and had all the pregnancy hormones at that time!
we are a few months further now.... i am pregnant again now, 4 weeks and 3 days. i did a test 3 days before i was due. and it was light positive. i then went to get my blood drawn and the hcg value was 37. is that good? the doctor wants to draw blood again this friday, so 1 week later, to see if it's rising or falling... this makes me so nervous and stressed. is the value good for someone who would then be 3 weeks and 3 days pregnant????
  13. Eveline Guest #14

I had an ultrasound at 5.5 weeks (I thought I was already 7 weeks, but I wasn't). I thought I wouldn't see anything, but the sonographer immediately said: "I see something." And sure enough: a tiny little human, 2 mm with a heartbeat. A week later, he/she had grown neatly to 7.5 mm. Despite continuous brown discharge and a heavy bleed. In 3 days, another ultrasound, then I'll be around 7.5 weeks. It's still nerve-wracking, especially after 2 miscarriages and continuous bleeding. But it can (for now) happen!!!

    Hi Eveline,
I'm looking forward to your next ultrasound together! Keep us posted, okay? I'm cheering super hard for you both!

    Hi,

I've been reading here and I see so many relatable stories! I have a 2.5-year-old son and was pregnant with a second child last year. Unfortunately, I found out in late May (at 12 weeks pregnant) that the heartbeat had stopped. I had a D&C and then my cycle didn't return. On August 5th, I finally got my period. And when I didn't get my period a month later, I had that feeling of being pregnant again. I didn't dare to test. After almost 2 weeks, I finally tested and it turned out I was pregnant. Today, I finally had the courage to make an appointment with the midwife. But I'm terrified. I feel like I can't handle an ultrasound. And I keep thinking: if it's not officially confirmed by the midwife or ultrasound, then nothing can go wrong. Sounds incredibly crazy. What a terrible feeling. That constant fear.
  16. Meis Guest #17

Oh, so relatable. I had a spontaneous miscarriage last year at 11 weeks, even though I was really struggling with symptoms. I was so devastated that we waited a year before trying again. And yes, it worked after 2 tries, but... unfortunately, it went wrong again, this time at 6 weeks.
I was still in the midst of my grief when I suddenly realized my cycle had been really long. And sure enough, it was pregnant right away!! Now 7.5 weeks pregnant, overjoyed but terrified about everything It's not fun at all...
  17. Girl1988 Guest #18

So relatable! I'm currently 7 weeks pregnant with my first baby, and after two early miscarriages, I'm really scared too... I often have crying spells because I'm afraid it won't go well again!! At one point, I was so scared that I called the clinic. They told me I could come in for an ultrasound at 1:00 PM that day. I was 6 weeks and 4 days pregnant then, and there was my little sprout with a beautiful beating heart :-). My fear was gone for a brief moment! Unfortunately, only for a short time. Luckily, I have another appointment on July 31st now, so I just need to get through these next 10 days.

    Hi hi,
What a relatable story. I went through the same thing last year and I'm now 5 weeks pregnant.
In my case, there was never a blood test to check HCG levels. I didn't even know that was possible. Even now, when I'm super scared, neither the GP nor the midwife has said anything about it. I have an internal ultrasound at 7 weeks, so I have to wait 3 more weeks to find out anything... Last time, I was 8 weeks at my first scan. My partner and I went to the midwife with big smiles, expecting to hear a heartbeat. Unfortunately, there was only a gestational sac from 1 week old. Nothing. Through the hospital, I got pills to induce a miscarriage at home (I had to pass my own baby on the toilet!). After going through that, I had to come in for a check-up and it turned out I had to do it all over again because it wasn't completely gone! This whole experience was an emotional rollercoaster for me. And now I'm being ignored again????
I hope everything goes well for you this time. I still have 2 weeks to wait.
    Greetings

    Good evening!
I'm glad to find a topic about this!
At the beginning of May last year I found out I was 4 weeks pregnant, and I really felt pregnant Finally at 8 or 9 weeks I went for my first ultrasound full of hope, but it turned out to be an empty gestational sac, nothing at all! I could have sunk into the ground from the misery and sadness!

I contacted the midwife that same day and could see the gynecologist on Friday already; I got medication to induce the miscarriage. And now, on Father's Day, I had the miscarriage, really intense and terrible!
A week later I went back to the gynecologist and it turned out not everything had passed! I was told to come back in 5 weeks, by then it should definitely be out... but no, absolutely nothing. 5 weeks later, a different gynecologist found out that my uterus has a heart shape and not a pear shape, which he himself would never have figured out! There was still residual tissue and clots; they were going to remove it via ultrasound-guided suction in the outpatient clinic... it went wrong halfway through and they had to stop; I lost blood afterwards and fainted. Lost blood and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, where I was eventually cured under general anesthesia!

    That's your first pregnancy then.
Now, 5 months later, I'm pregnant again. Tomorrow exactly 5 weeks. I had to go to the gynecologist twice, went again today but there was maybe something, he couldn't say for sure, a black dot. They also took my hCG blood test and it was 110, is that good?

I'm very worried and quite scared that it will go wrong again! ????

    Love
