I'm now in my 5th week and my belly feels harder in the evenings than during the day. Is that because of the pregnancy?

5 weeks is pretty fast to get contractions. I think you're more likely experiencing gas or a bladder infection. -

I just read up on what false labor contractions are, but that's really not what I'm experiencing. I just genuinely notice that my lower abdomen feels harder in the evenings.

That could really be your intestines. I also noticed that my belly was much bigger in the evenings at the beginning.
