Feeling terrible

Talya
Hi ladies,

I don't know what to do anymore.
I'm currently 6 weeks and 4 days pregnant. Since Tuesday night last week, I've been incredibly nauseous and feel absolutely awful. I know these symptoms are normal and that I shouldn't complain so much, but I just don't feel well. I tried taking ginger pills, but that didn't work; they only made me feel more nauseous. I ate lemon, but that didn't help either. I had a cracker quietly in bed in the morning and got up slowly, but that didn't help either. I avoid fatty foods and mainly eat mild things like yogurt and soup. Meanwhile, I'm still nauseous and feel awful. The worst part is that I get incredibly nauseous when pouring my urine into the mothers-for-mothers jugs!! I really want to participate, but because of the nausea, I can't do it all day. By the way, I quit smoking 2 weeks ago; my husband said that besides the pregnancy hormones, I smell extra good because of that, and that the nausea might be due to that. Well, it's hard to walk around with a clothespin on my nose.
Do you have any other tips?

Love, Talya

    Hi there.

That’s really tough! Are you also throwing up?
I had a lot of nausea and vomiting myself, and I got some pills for it! No danger to the baby, and it’s night and day—I feel so much better! So if I were you, and it’s really holding you back, just call your midwife, explain the situation, and say you’d like something to help with it!
Let me know what you decide!

I felt so bad for weeks. Couldn’t go to work, had to throw up all the time. Got some suppositories from the doctor that are safe for the baby, and since then I’ve been feeling much better. I’m also working 4-6 hours a day again. Such a relief!
Thankfully, there’s something you can do about it!

Hi Talya, a tip I got from other moms is to pour the urine under the range hood. I haven't tried it myself yet, and I haven't been nauseous yet either, but I find the smell absolutely awful. Maybe it's worth a try. Love, RJ

what also helps is leaving the bottles from Mothers for Mothers outside for about an hour without caps. Apparently, the bad smell disappears quite a bit. That was the tip I got from Mothers for Mothers.

Ladies, thanks for your replies. Melis, I spoke with the HA, and she prescribed me suppositories for me to use before going to bed and when I wake up. Mandy, these are probably the same ones you had—max 10 days, and then I have to stop. She said it should go away on its own. It does indeed hinder me in what I do and say. Did it help you right away too? I'm curious (: RJ and mama3, thanks for the tips, I'll try them right away hihi. Love, Talya

That's great that you got something for it!! I have pills and no suppositories, but I took one in the evening and felt much better the next day! I forgot it last night and felt worse again today, so I think they really help! I hope you feel better too! Can you enjoy being pregnant more!

    Hey Talya,
when I read your story, I felt so sorry for you..
I found out last week that I'm 6 weeks pregnant and oh my god, I've already been feeling so awful, from morning till night and even at night.
I've tried all the tricks - dried ginger fruit, which is terrible, tea with ginger, eating crackers in bed before getting up, etc.. Now I went to the pharmacist and she gave me those ginger pills, I hope they'll help!
I have to wait until January 15th to see the gynecologist for the first time..
Hopefully you're feeling much better by now with the prescribed pills and can fully enjoy your pregnancy!
    Greetings

    Hey ladies

I already felt a lot better on the first day after using the suppository. Less miserable and less nauseous.
Still not really enjoying the pregnancy yet, occasionally vomiting and feeling rough, but much less than last week Do the ginger pills help Sandy a bit? And Melis1606, how long can you keep taking those pills?
  9. Mandy #10

They're indeed the same ones I had, what an amazing invention! I could finally do something for a bit. They say you'll start feeling better in the second trimester, but unfortunately, I have no experience with that yet , I'm 14 weeks now and still feel awful.
Have you had an ultrasound yet, Talya?

Hey Mandy, my cousin didn’t have any issues during the first trimester, but only in the second. Maybe it’s different for everyone. No, I haven’t had an ultrasound yet. I’ll have it on January 9th How many weeks did you have your first ultrasound? Love
  11. Sandy Guest #12

    hey hey,
I took the ginger pills and they help a bit, but not to the point of "wow, I feel amazing today!"
Some days I feel really rough, but luckily other days are better.
I can only go to the gynecologist on January 15th for my first ultrasound, which is almost 9-10 weeks. That’s quite a wait, isn’t it? Well, she said it wouldn’t hurt.
It’s a shame we can’t share the news with others during the holidays; that would’ve been nice. But now I’m still too unsure, what about you guys?
Greetings and hopefully you can enjoy the Christmas days!
  12. mandy Guest #13

I had my first ultrasound at 7 weeks, and I already have the fifth one tomorrow!

I find it so annoying that I have to wait so long. Everyone around me already had their first scan at 7 or 8 weeks, just like you did, Mandy. It feels weird that we’re only getting one at week 10. Anyway, just like they told Sandy, I was told the same thing hehe. Let’s just wait and be patient, it can’t hurt.

@Sandy: I also have my moments of insecurity. We really wanted to write “us and the baby” on the Christmas cards. But we decided not to. Still, my close family and my work know we’re expecting (my work is a small group and I bring my morning sickness supplies to the office).

By the way, I don’t have such severe nausea anymore. I still feel a bit gross sometimes, and I’ve vomited twice since Tuesday. Since Friday, though, I’ve had this sour taste in my mouth all day. As soon as I eat something, the taste goes away, but once I finish eating, it comes back. It’s really disgusting. It’s not heartburn, but I took a Rennie anyway, hoping it would get rid of the sour taste. Is this familiar to you guys? Anyway, I don’t have that sour, nasty taste in my mouth anymore now (it’s been 2 hours since I took the Rennie).

    Hey Talya!

I just had my ultrasound at 10 weeks too! In my practice, they always did it around that time! I was going crazy, it felt like it took so long!! At first I thought, as long as I have symptoms it'll be fine! And luckily that was true!

And I totally recognize that sour taste! I still get it sometimes and honestly still don't know what causes it!

Anyway, I'm almost 15 weeks now and going to the midwife again tomorrow! Still exciting!

  15. mandy Guest #16

With the first one, I also only had the first ultrasound at 10 weeks. This time I was lucky that the midwife had bought an ultrasound machine; otherwise, I would have had to wait until 10 weeks again. I had a second ultrasound at 8 weeks due to bleeding, but luckily everything was fine.

You naturally want to shout it from the rooftops! I completely understand!
  16. Talya started this #17

Ohhh yes Mandy, I really want to scream it from the rooftops hihihi it's so hard to hold back and have to wait. By the way, yesterday and this morning I had pink bleeding when wiping after using the toilet and a little bit in my underwear. I read online that I don't need to worry, but I think I'll still give the midwife a quick call tomorrow. Mandy, did you have a lot of bleeding? They say you should only call the midwife if you're worried, well I am worried but I also have to admit that I can be a bit of a drama queen..

Funny, isn't it Melis1606 that it varies so much. Hihihi you surely understand how I feel now, so impatient. 15 weeks, then you can almost see the gender right? It remains exciting indeed

    Love,

Just call the midwife, that's what they're there for! (not at this time of night, of course). I only had minimal bleeding, but I'm also a bit of a drama queen :-) Turns out it was torn blood vessels in the uterus because he was growing too fast. It can be completely harmless, but if you don't feel right, just call!
  18. melis1606 #19

Talya, drama queen or not, if you're worried, just call! Nothing's worse than uncertainty, and they can often reassure you really well! I'd also call in your situation!

I have my 20-week ultrasound on February 1st, and then we'll know for sure what it is, haha! Can't wait! Then I can finally go shopping and all that!

    Keep us posted, girl!
  19. RJ #20

Hi Talya, I had bright red bleeding at 8 weeks. Naturally, I was worried about it too, but everything turned out fine. I read everywhere that you don't need to worry about pink mucus discharge. Everything is well-perfused, and with a little straining (coughing, sneezing, etc.), some bleeding can occur. I hope this reassures you a bit; if not, I'd definitely call the midwife. My sister had this too during her pregnancy, she called the midwife and was able to come in earlier for an ultrasound. Love
