big scan

Does anyone know if you have to request the big ultrasound yourself, or does the OB-GYN do that?

I mean an extended ultrasound to check if everything is working properly and if there's enough amniotic fluid, the size of the head, or if the heart valves are functioning well. I'm wondering if you should request that in advance since it's more expensive than a regular ultrasound and also takes longer.

    Hi Anneke,

From what I read and how you describe it, I think you mean the 20-week scan.
    That's the standard scan.

I'm with a midwife practice, and they told me I had to make the appointment myself.
Once that was done, I had to call/email them to let them know when it was scheduled so they could send the details to the OB-GYN in time.

    I see you're 22 weeks pregnant?
If I were you, I'd contact your midwife or OB-GYN on Monday.
Because I think you should have already had your 20-week scan by now...

    Best wishes

I also got a sort of referral card for the ultrasound from my midwife. Just make an appointment with the agency that does it, and your 20-week ultrasound is normally covered by your health insurance, so you really don't have to pay for it at all.
