Scared that something goes wrong

Hi ladies,

I’m about 5 weeks pregnant with our first baby now, so it’s still very early, but I found out at 3.5 weeks already.

Only 3 weeks to wait until the first ultrasound, and I’m having such a hard time being patient. I also only want to tell my (in-)laws after the first scan. You read all sorts of horror stories about miscarriages everywhere online, and those statistics are driving me crazy. I’m sure that once I’ve had the first scan and see a heartbeat, I’ll finally feel at ease again.

I’m so happy and grateful to be pregnant, but I don’t dare get too excited. It’s a form of self-protection.

Are there any ladies who are also on the waiting bench for their first scan? How did you cope with it?

Love,
Olivia

I think a lot of women have had or still have issues with that. You don't feel anything else yet, so you can't really draw any conclusions from it either. You could pay for an ultrasound around 7 weeks. That way, you can definitely see the little heart beating.

That was here too, you know. And I thought things would get better after the ultrasound, but nothing could be further from the truth. After each scan, I felt a bit reassured, but not long after, I was scared again that something might go wrong. It wasn't until the birth came and I saw our baby was healthy that I finally felt relieved. If you want a baby so much, it makes sense that you're worried something might go wrong. Even though you're only 5 weeks pregnant, it's your baby inside you, right? I hope you can let go of some of that worry and wish you a lovely pregnancy!

Had our first ultrasound this week, +7 weeks pregnant. Both sets of grandparents know. I'd love to tell everyone, but there's also that fear that something could still go wrong.
I really hope not though, spent 2 years trying for this little miracle

I was scared for 9 months of losing my little one. I had pregnancy-induced hypertension. I only felt relieved when I had him in my arms.
Meanwhile, I have a stubborn, sweet little kid of 5.

Oh, what a story! It's definitely true that it brings uncertainty for every woman. I had my viability scan at around 7+3 weeks. I've been waiting for 2 weeks already and still have almost 2 more to go. My parents are already aware, as well as my best friend and employer. It feels good to share it with people in your inner circle.

We hope everything goes well and that we'll soon see the little heart beating. If not, then the baby wasn't healthy. Super sad, but that's nature.

    Pffff, so exciting!!
