So scared, chickenpox during pregnancy

Hello ladies,

I'm now 11.5 weeks pregnant and my youngest has had chickenpox since last week. I've never had them according to my mom.
I'm reading all sorts of horror stories about pregnancy and chickenpox, and there's a chance the baby could have disabilities if it's before the 16th week of pregnancy.
I called my midwife last Friday to tell her, since then I know my daughter has chickenpox; she had 2 spots since Wednesday but didn't know what it was.
My midwife was very casual about it and didn't believe I'd never had chickenpox, but I really wanted blood tests to see if I have antibodies. Now I'm reading online that in case of doubt, antibodies should always be administered immediately, but my midwife didn't mention that. This must be within 96 hours after contact with someone with chickenpox, and that was Friday so it was still in time, now 2 days later it's too late.

I'm so angry at my midwife that she doesn't take me seriously. And now I'm so scared that I'll still get chickenpox.
Can only cry...

Has anyone else or do you know someone who had chickenpox during the first 16 weeks of pregnancy, and was the baby born healthy?

Love, Ava.

That's so tough for you, Ava!
Have you considered talking to your GP about it? Maybe they can arrange for a blood test so you'll know exactly where you stand.
And when you touch your baby, try to wash your hands as much as possible.

It probably won't help, but a child is already contagious before the spots even appear. That's also why kids are usually allowed to go to daycare or school. So a GP or midwife can't really do much for you either.

You should indeed be careful when the blisters burst open.
The fluid inside them is also contagious.

In adults, chickenpox often shows up as hives, I think.

I understand you're looking online for answers, but you're right to ask your GP.

Call your GP. Stressing is not good for your baby anyway. They can give you advice right away, and then you'll know if there's anything you can do about it.

    Hi Ava,
I'm 13 weeks pregnant myself and my little boy also has chickenpox at the moment. I've never had it myself. My doctor immediately had me get my blood drawn at the hospital to check if I had antibodies or not, and whether I had been infected at that time.
After my rash appeared, it turned out I indeed didn't have antibodies, so I got an injection to protect myself and the baby.
It would be good to discuss this again with your doctor.
    Good luck!
