A clear positive test, but still some bleeding.

Dear ladies,

I'm probably the 100th person on this forum, but it feels nice to just ask...

I had a puncture on March 3rd and an embryo transfer on March 6th. Yesterday I tested with a Clearblue test and instead of a line, I got a bar! We were over the moon. Today, though, I suddenly had some bleeding and cramps. I know things can go wrong. However, I tested on Saturday and then yesterday, and you can see the increase in HCG reflected in the color and thickness of the line.

You read everywhere that it could also be nothing... What's acceptable regarding bleeding and how long? I'm mainly very confused about the strong positive test and then the bleeding. You'd expect a faint positive test if it's a miscarriage/happening?

Thanks in advance for the answers!

There's really nothing positive to say about it, unfortunately.

I've had 3 miscarriages and 4 full-term pregnancies. The first two went fine. Pregnancy 3 had only a tiny bit of spotting, then an empty gestational sac. The last pregnancy had a lot of bleeding with clots and severe cramps, but it lasted a few weeks. She’s now a big girl of 4.5 years old. Pregnancy 6 also had a lot of bleeding, but without clots or cramps.

I’d stick with the test. A lot can happen in your uterus. Take another test in 2 days and see what the hCG levels have done. In my case, hCG dropped quickly before/during the miscarriages, both at 11/9 weeks and at 5 weeks.

    Hi,

I lost quite a bit of blood for about 3-4 hours at 5 weeks and 6 days. After that, no more drops, and I thought on that evening that it was really over, but at the scan, everything looked really good with a beating heart. That was my daughter, who is now 1.5 years old. Before that, I had no bleeding or anything at all, and definitely a positive test, but unfortunately, it was an empty gestational sac, and then no more bleeding!

    Dear ladies,

Thanks for the replies. My tests keep showing bright positive, so it doesn't seem like a lost cause.

The uncertainty is lasting longer than the wait until we were finally allowed to test.

    You've given me hope. Thxxxxx

@jamy my son had severe bleeding at 4 weeks old, but now he's a healthy toddler at 3 With bleeding, I'd always call the midwife.

Jamy, it's so nice that you're getting through the uncertainty and the tests keep coming back super positive. That gives hope. Elvira is right that you can always call your midwife for reassurance if you experience bleeding. It's nice to have someone who's following along to talk to. Wishing you lots of strength and good wishes as you wait and hope.
