Forum Pregnant and working

Hi everyone,
I’m pregnant and of course thrilled about it. Now I need to tell my employer soon. After our last conversation about my contract, he said he wasn’t sure what he’d do regarding hours—maybe reduce them since women are pregnant anyway and are only supposed to work 16 hours.
I found that quite heavy to hear. I’m already 3 months pregnant. I have to sign my permanent contract in a few weeks, but how can I best tell my employer?

Best regards,

Regardless of the fact that you're pregnant... congratulations! ... what an inappropriate attitude from your employer! That this still exists!

Assuming that women 'want to get pregnant anyway' and therefore reducing their hours (and thus income) from the start is pure discrimination against women, a real classic. Our grandmothers fought against this half a century ago, and won... Did you record any audio, or get it in writing that he said that? If you then have problems with your hours based on the fact that you're pregnant when you tell them at work, you'll at least have a strong legal basis to stand on. Anyway, you'll want and need to tell them, even if just for some clarity and peace of mind. It's up to you when to tell, you have up to 3 weeks before your leave starts. Very pragmatically, you could wait to tell until after you've signed your permanent contract, if you want. But just to consider: personally, I wouldn't want to work for such an employer...
